There are actually dozens of classification systems like the one I speak of. The only 'problem' is none of them are the same - that is to say there really isn't a standard. Basically, there are several published articles relating the difficulty of learning language developed by several institutes that range from a 3 to 5 category/class system. The FSI of the US Dept. of State uses a 3 Category system for the difficulty of learning languages for a person who has English as their primary. The US military uses a four category system. Etcetra etcetra.

BTW, I must admit to laughing a little bit at your response... your belief of whether or not something exists is limited to whether or not you can find it by a quick internet search? I assure you there are many things I could talk about work related that have no articles you will ever find on the 'net. I suppose the classifiers would be most happy to know that the populace now only believes what it can find on the 'net to be true.

It's not belief, but more of a modifier of how much salt to take with what someone says.

Basically, my response to your post went down like this.

(English is the world's only) Well that's a statement. Not just hard, but in a tier of it's own no less. The whole world, and NOTHING can match it? Well, I want to look into this.
(Class V language) Hmm, capitalization AND a roman numeral. This looks like proper terminology, that damn near always brings up exactly what I'm looking for effortlessly.

So, I plug it in (I suggest you try it too, with and without quotes), and the returns I get are... noise. Nothing to the specific topic at hand, and more importantly not even clues of where else, what else to look for.

This generally sets off bullshit alerts in my mind.

Now, if I try it again with the info from your next post, and use category instead of class, it starts working. Try IV, and you get some signal, even the top link is a wikipedia page for nearly what we're looking for. (Not the DLI itself, or their documentation on the matter, but you get something that will EASILY let you search more rigorously)

Even doing "category V language" gets enough to work on, despite the fact DLI's system doesn't go that far. You find some posts by armed forces users on the subject, which will clue you to search the topic in relation to the military. In this case, even a bad search turns up signal, as compared to working from your original post.

So yes, my mistake, there are classification systems. If English is in the hardest category with nothing to keep it company, well that's a matter for another day. I obviously need to bone up on the matter before I can discuss it properly.

That's... nice. Though if it's not on the net, considering your occupation, there's probably a reason for that. I'm pretty sure your superiors wouldn't like you promoting the fact "I works with hush-hush stuffz" in order to have an edge in internet bumfights, right?
You do know what Miz can do, right? http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77820
And he's on OUR side. You also know that BG gets google indexed for all to see, right? Hell, as I type this and before I post, YOU are the #3 result for "class v language".
And, oh damn, the picture you took, good side, yeah? Did you think to notice it's the same side YOUR NAME TAPE IS ON!?

Does nobody think about information security anymore? Depressing tbh.

I have no issues with any of the data I present, because all of the data I present is something you can find. Amusingly enough, I sometimes check wiki and Google just to make sure the things I talk about can be read about from some other source before I post them.

And what of my name? You can find the class graduation pictures for any of the nuclear power programs. You can go on the US DOE site and download all the technical manuals for nuclear power plants. Now, I will admit they're dumbed down, but how much so is just for you to guess. However, any and all data I present is available in some form or another, somewhere else. Including my picture, my name, and probably a host of other information. Actually, I'd be willing to bet you could find more information about me from other places than you could that I offer myself, and I don't really hide anything.

Nuclear power is by itself a mystery to most people, but if it is ever to lose the stigma it has, we have to present as much information as possible. Its no great piece of information to anyone that we don't tell you everything though, which is why, as you say, the bullshit flag gets waved. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about that, but be honest with it. So feel free to take my words with a grain of salt, as it were.

The interesting thing is that you think my comment was trying to 'one up'. I was merely attempting to make a casual observation. I guess one could say I should have said nuclear related, rather than work related, as that would have been more accurate. Poor choice of words on my part. There is just some information you can't find on the net, for innocent reasons. I'll give you an example: Type "SL-1" in Google, and you'll get a massive load of hits that describe in detail the accident that occurred there. Now try typing in "HTRE-3" and you'll have to start digging to learn about the accident there. Both are freely available to read about though. The internet is a great resource, but understand that for me the idea of someone using that as a sole pin to whether or not someone is speaking out of their ass is rather amusing to me. I'll never understand the wikiwarrior thing, which is why I don't participate in Miz's or the others particle physics conversations. That crap is way above my head, and I have no interest in looking the fool.

Edit: Hell, I'll give you an even better example. The power point I just put up in the other thread about the Sayano-Shushenskaya accident is composed of information that is readily available, yet finding it on the net wasn't something I was able to pull off. The most I could find was articles on the accident, not the analysis that occurred afterwards. Maybe I just need to learn to speak Russian, probably could have checked more of the reference material.

Habit. After enough arguments, you can get a bit prickly. It's actually "laughing" and the last sentence that got the job done. Backing down now.

Thing is though, while the thought may be amusing now, how much longer will it be?
The info you couldn't find, now that you did, and put it up, it's findable! Bit by bit, everything is coming online. Think, one day someone might need that info, and they may get it through BG, how weird is that.

I agree with you about nuclear power. It's been thirty years since TMI, improvements have been made.
