The world rallied around America after the 9/11 attacks, and continues to support our efforts in Afghanistan, because of the horror of those senseless attacks and the recognized principle of self-defense. Likewise, the world recognized the need to confront Saddam Hussein when he invaded Kuwait -- a consensus that sent a clear message to all about the cost of aggression.


Furthermore, America cannot insist that others follow the rules of the road if we refuse to follow them ourselves. For when we don't, our action can appear arbitrary, and undercut the legitimacy of future intervention -- no matter how justified.

If you read again you'll notice he didnt technically say he did. He's pretty good at letting people assume the opposite of what he literally said it seems.

People are naive if they think those two incidents weren't placed side by side on accident. The speech writers are clever so It's exactly what he wants us to believe with or without saying it.

Still have no idea why the hell people are up in arms about Afghanistan...how could you possibly be surprised by this if you paid any attention at all to his campaigning where he consistently said he was going to ramp up efforts in Afghanistan. Well, whatever they're doing over there, it's better to do it with too many than too few troops. From a save-our-troops perspective.
