LOL, I have it all, I work for a wireless company so I have the right to be a cock just like everyone else on these boards.
The app is a great idea, but focused on a small amount of people that would like to use it, hence a PC or Web app would've been a much better solution.
Again, thanks for your input.
except if he wanted to make money, and in this case it appears its working even if its barely enough to cover the development cost
I agree, a web-based version would hit a larger audience.
At the same time, since I have fun developing apps for the iPhone platform and I thought it would be nice to have this utility on my phone... it was a simple decision for me to develop this for the iPhone.
Maybe someday I would port this over to a desktop or web app, we'll see when I have the time to invest in that.
While I cannot give a 100% guarantee that the app will stay up-to-date with developments w/in the game, I can say that I'm not only the developer, I'm also a customer. I want this app to be as accurate and up-to-date as much as you do.
Fortunately for you the user, when it comes to new gear, ws's, jobs, food, mobs and as of v1.1 blu spells... these updates can be done completely thru the app, by tapping "Update Application Data".
New features, calculation fixes, etc... will require a version update thru iTunes.
I'd like to add another 5 beta testers. If you are interested please send me a PM, not a reply to this post.
please include your device type (iPod Touch, iPhone 3G/3GS/....) and OS Version (3.0, 3.1,...).
Thanks
Well crap, apparently I've stepped on the toes of the SE Legal team.
As of the end of the day today ( 12/18 ) I am temporarily taking the app off of the app store, until I can get a new version together w/o any references to the FFXI mark or any of their characters... and still keep something of an aesthetic appeal to the app.You may not reproduce images of any Square Enix's characters or virtual assets (clothing, weapons, etc.) from Final Fantasy XI or any other Square Enix games in your product, and may not use the mark "FFXI" in conjunction with your product.
Sincerely yours,
Square Enix Legal Department
Well it has to be that he is charging for the app. I mean they have no problem with their premium sites using FFXI logos and ingame items.
Hmmm well first thing I would do is change the icon and the name (hell may have been something similar that caused Twitterfon to change to Echofon)...
One thing that has me upset over this whole thing, is that I'm most definitely NOT the only on w/an app on the app store that is using the term FFXI and/or reproducting images from the game...
just do a search of ffxi in the app store
Did you ask for permission to develop the product before starting?
Dont know the specifics for the other developers; but having the copyright owners permission usually does not result in a desist order.
