Tried to verify files and didn't work. I did try to open the original POL and I got the same issue "preparing to install POL and Tetra Master", so I guess I will need to de-install and re-install POL again.

That error means that some of your DLL.s have become unregistered. Have you installed anything lately that you didnt have before, like .net 4, or stuff like that? Have you let the installation go through?

One other thing you could do, that should work if you have alot of hard drive space, is to rename the pol folder (add a letter or number to it) reinstall ffxi and all the expansions, delete the new install, and reneame the folder back. That will reregister all files, and then you put your old files back, avoiding any updates.

I haven't installed anything new that I know off. I'll try this but it will take a while

Yea, it will take 20-30 minutes, but not 5 hours to download the updates. Just remember, DELETE the new install folder, dont uninstall it. Then rename the original folder.
