For se, yes, but not for us. There's no way for the user to determine which accounts are trials and which are not. I agree though that it would be the best solution on se's end, mirroring actions by blizzard that worked quite well.

the same can be said for any crypto system. after all, there's only so many possible decryption keys. the goal is not to make it impossible to crack, only impractical in a reasonable time frame.

I'd ban all .cn IPs from downloading Windower. Not that that would really help much/at all.

Not really, can still talk in all other chat modes. I think other MMOs do this without issue. (or you could only let trial accounts /tell trial accounts?)

If the person on trial made that much of an impression on you that you want to help them; why would you not friendlist them?

The few genuine new players I have encountered usually ask for help in /say, rather than /tell.

I might just be lucky but I hardly even get any tells from them, it's not like you're getting spammed every 30 seconds, and I've pretty much learned to just ignore it not like it's ruining my game anyway. Quit being pussies and just ignore them.

Possibly IP check the receiver and sender if possible. If they're on the same subnet it doesn't filter anything. That would screw any legit players who are subletting their house to CGF and share WiFi, but nobody else.

You can't get IP info about the people sending you tells. Everything goes through SE's servers.

Nah, I didn't know how /tells worked.

SE implementing that would help somewhat though. They could also use like a post-1992 filtering system as well.

Aikar mentioned regular expressions and that was the first thing I thought when the retarded deliberate mispellings by the RMT started surfacing about 5 hours after the update went live. But since Square Enix is run by a bunch of belt and zipper slapping on butt monkeys what can you really expect from them? I mean they could barely manage to make their own game windowed. lol

Disabling /t on trial accounts is not the answer - but restricting its use wouldnt hurt. Only allowing 2x /t recipients in a 60 second window, or maximum of 20 recipients in a 10 minute window (pretty difficult to gather a party together with no /t at all).

Honestly I dont understand how SE can be having trouble with this.
