How would you classify the genre of AC2 and Uncharted?
What I love is any whiff of expectation that a televised awards show would be anything other than a hours of advertising for already massively popular games. Yeah it's funny when MW2 doesn't get another 'game of the year' award but not so funny when 'Best Music' goes to a game that didn't have a stitch of original composition in it. Rewarding effort and quality with any sincerity was never the stuff awards shows were made of--Michael Moore wins documentary Oscars, remember?
I am remember watching the first spike VGAs and I think Madden won the music award. I actually think that's when I turned it off and swore off the channel.
I thought it was odd sticking the two of them in the same genre, personally, too. I haven't played UC2, but UC1 was a third-person shooter, which I would classify as strictly an action game. The "climbing" portions were too few and far between, and there really wasn't any exploration... at all. It was "move from point A to point B to fight X number of waves of enemies." Games like Batman or Assassin's Creed have a bit more exploration with the way they approach the action, and you aren't particularly restricted to a direct line from point A to point B (nor is the amount of combat remotely as frequent as Uncharted).
don't encourage him
Conflict is much more encouraging than appreciation or agreement. Message Boards 101.
EDIT: Palom is right to compare Assassin's Creed and Batman AA. They are both stealthy beat em ups with a lot of platformer/climbing elements. Assassin's Creed is what a Batman game should be, at least partially.
there's no stealth or melee in uncharted.
but seriously, making "stealthy" a qualification is what leads to "bullshit (sub)genres." it's no different from pointing out "exploration" and then calling something a Metroidvania, and on top of that then refusing to compare it to Megaman games.
The biggest contrast here is the beat em up and third person shooter.
EDIT:
Atreides:
Need to skip around but for some platforming elements, you can see the main example here:

There is the whole gargoyles being fucking everywhere that they used to have Batman climbing everywhere. Batman AA was neutered in comparison to Assassin's Creed.
there are only like... 3 scarecrow dream sequences in the whole game, other than that there's really not much more than swinging and grappling aside from a few short sequences in the sewers. I still don't see how they're as alike as you say.
o there you go after 3 tries
No not spamming really, but why exactly was the game shallow? Is that the only thing you can say after me disagreeing with you is that I must be spamming?
I enjoyed the game, I found the combat to be deep, rewarding and challenging. I also enjoyed finding the clues and such hidden around the island. Clearly, with me stating the points of why I liked a game, and why I didn't think it was shallow, it must be spamming. Anyways, I'm done.
I didn't watch it, haven't watched since the first one.
Reeks of huge hidden marketing campaigns masquerading in an awards show...
Why doesn't batman get wet when he's walking down that hallway and water is pouring down everywhere?
because he's fucking batman
