    Company Antivirus programs

Hey guys, looking for a good antivirus program to install on a majority of the computers I have here at work. We've had success with AVG and malware bytes getting rid of a majority of the problems, however looking to get something we pay for with active protection. Probably dealing with 30-50 computers. Any suggestions? Thinking to either go with trend micro or pay for a business liscense for AVG

Avast and Avira are 2 that I would look into for sure. Avast is what we use here at work and have no issues with it.

Symantec Corporate is good for it's low intrusiveness and ability to stop network threats. It tends to struggle in removing most malware though.

Nod32 is a little more bloated than Symantec but has much higher detection rates. I've used both and tend to like Nod32 a bit more. They both have server editions and consoles which make it much easier to manage anti-virus in a corporate environment. Obviously free anti-virus solutions don't have this option.

Supposedly NOD32 is the leader as far as detection of first-day viruses goes (60+%, where most other virus scanners are 20s-30s).

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise is awesome not only one single PCs, but large networks. It can be intergrated into Exchange and other servers; the server app has the ability to control all clients from a central point via GUI or by policy.

My company is currently using Symantec but it's mediocre at best.
We're currently looking at different options to switch over to in the first quarter of the new year.

My company uses Sophos (av and firewall), and has an agreement/license that allows employees to use it at home, too. So I've just been using the corporate/enterprise version of that on all my home comps for free.

Seems to have low overhead and isn't very obtrusive.

    Company Antivirus programs

antivirus programs are a bit like favourite snacks, we all have one we stick to.

Some mentioned AVG, AVAST, AVIRA, and for the average usage these will do fine myself id rather burn my system before AVG is installed, but like I said, each to their own taste

another option to try is trial offers by the big companies... for example currently Bitdefender is offering a months free trialfully functions as is Kaspersky i believe

now you might say, hey, after a month what do i do? Well after you cleaned your system and its all sparkling, you of course create a restore point or make a backup of that so you have it there in case, after the month you can try another trial or grab a freebee. I never stay with one too long because some companies get a bit promotional with catching what they term harmful files when they arent.

There are also online virus scanners which will remove your problems without a program installed well the initial dat files and such but they can be removed after the scan is completed. I think Panda has this, as does Bitdefender and others

its good to even test the scanner you have occasionally because what one misses another finds.

    good luck

Did you even read the original post? He's looking for an AV solution to use in a corporate environment on dozens of computers. It's not a "which do you like more" question.

I still get a lot of PCs w/ McAfee taken into my job for virus removal. The other day, guy had the McAfee Internet Security suite I believe, we found over 700 traces of malware on his PC. This is w/ the software being updated and scans run once a week.

Also have had similar issues with Symantec Corporate. I'd honestly use Microsoft Security Essentials before a Symantec or McAfee software which is free from Microsoft as long as you have a genuine version of MS Windows and I've noticed has had a high detection rate.

    Company Antivirus programs

Im trying to help a friend with his computer. Hes been infected by something called Antivirus Live and Ive never seen anything like it.

I cant give you a HijackThis log, because the Trojan wont let me run it.
I cant run Malware-Bytes for the same reason. In fact I cant run anything.
Also, I cant access the registry from RUN.

Using the internet on the infected machine is high near impossible. I always have to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>LAN SETTINGS and disable the Proxy Server so that I can even get to seeing any webpage other than the one that takes me to where the Trojan wants me to purchase the software that can take the virus off the machine. And then I have to do that, over and over because it resets it.

Im getting really frustrated and Im not sure what to do. Any help is always appreciated of course.

    Thanks

Boot into safe mode and run your malware removal software.
Change the internet settings while in safe mode also.

Safe mode will boot your computer with only the basic and necessary drivers needed to run the computer, so the trojan/virus shouldn't have the chance to start up.

My company is looking at Sophos to replace our current Symantec setup.
I'm part of a meeting with a rep about it next week, but is there anyone here who has any experiance with it?

You also may want to try Dr. Web to stop the immediate threat then use the normal tools afterwards. Dr. Web runs as a portable app so no need to install and its name is random from each time it updates online. Meaning it could be called "547xr42.exe" one day and something random on another so it helps get around malware that stop apps based on name.

    What to run after...

    1) Malwarebytes Anti-malware of course if you can.
    2) ComboFix
    3) Smitfraudfix
    4) SUPERAntiSpyware works too.
    5) Microsoft Security Essentials - Works extremely well from my experience. Very high detection rate. A lot of malware programs target this as well so you probably won't be able to run this until the main "blocker" is dealt with.

I'd run things in that order. Of course any apps you need, DL them from a different PC, put it on a flash drive you won't mind formatting. In the end once you're done, I'd keep Malwarebytes Anti-malware on your PC along w/ MSE for active protection.
