Thought beta/launch was confirmed for international?

i thought so too with the factor: multiple languages and such, how does it work together but ffxi was public beta beta only in Japan. so it seems they seem to be going the same route again (for beta testing).

Probably beta testing it in the home-land given the devs are JP, and it's easier to interact with a JP playerbase for suggestions/bug-submissions without requiring a handful of translators handy.

The 'international' beta would most likely be a case of stress-testing the servers and ensuring there weren't any glitches in the localization of the text/interface.

Noted. Thanks for clearing that up. It's interesting though because it says nothing about closed beta. Maybe their "small focus group" is their closed beta, but it's cool to know that it will be international.

I'm too impatient to wait til March -.-
But i can't read JP and it would be a spoiled experience not knowing what the hell to do because of the language.

The Ebay and Amazon prices are like nearly $100 just to get my hands on a Beta code, if it is even a Beta Code.

Core is contradicting that right now with a new SS of the code's page stating that it's for a chance at Beta and for an exclusive in game item. Rather than it being either the Item or the Beta as stated before.

It appears Square Enix may wish to segregate players a bit at the beginning, mostly likely because it's only the first closed beta.

A lot of the questions were the same, such as whether you work in the gaming industry and whether you have a fan site or not. Also, the rules state you cannot reveal information about the development of FFXIV while you play the beta.
