Just what kind of power do you think a president has over someone like Lieberman exactly? i'm a bit more charitable towards the white house on this, i think they saw early on that it would be highly unlikely for a public option to pass the senate, so they pushed the liberal wing to drop it. keep in mind that max baucus, evan bayh, kent conrad, and either joe lieberman or olympia snowe would all have to vote in favor of it. it just wasn't in the cards.

What do you guys think are the chances of the senate making minor alterations in order to court Olympia Snow to signing on the bill... then telling Leiberman to jump of a cliff? I am not too familiar with her stance on this, but she seemed like someone who kind of gets how badly our health care system is treating people.

Honestly though, im going to take so much enjoyment in voting lieberman out of office... I never realy liked that guy, but voted for him once (years ago) despite not knowing what stand he had on issues... silly me for thinking someone who was listed as a democrat would.. vote in a similar (but not exact) fashion as other democrats.

He really is the classic example of someone who does anything to get into office. Then once he is in, does w/e he wants.

What would get her to sign onto anything? She only voted to get the bill out of committee because they removed the public option, and then they went and ditched that version when it came to the floor of the Senate. For all intents she's the same as LIEberman, only she's not afraid to admit she's a Republican.

This is the truth. At least it is for me. There was one thing that i voted for Obama for. One thing. That was comprehensive, meaningful, health care reform. I really thought he was the man to get the job done. I honestly believe that Hilary would have made another attempt at getting this done as well, but with being defeated, once already, on this issue... i dont think she would have even gotten this far.

So i voted Obama. Time will tell if I was right. But i am confident that most of the issues that i really resented about private insurance will be fixed... even if i am forced to carry expencive manditory insurance, without an option of a cheeper source for that insurance being made available to me, in return for those reforms.

When the dust settles we will still be in a better position than before. In terms of not being dropped, not having to pay extreme amounts once you get sick or older (which will happen to everyone), and not being excluded from being able to purchase insurance at a reasonable rate... I am rather certain that those reforms are set in stone. I dont even think they can be debated anymore with legitimate expectation of not including the ideas. But the public option, early buy in to medicare, or w/e way they do to provide a cheep cost controlling device to hold down the manditory insurance we will have to buy is what i am really watching at this time.
