Iran will never be able to live down that poorly interpreted "We want to wipe Israel off the map" quote.

    Ever.

lobbiests in America are making it Israel's bitch. Isnt it a fact that the big dawgs in America are mostly jewish or zionists?

U.S. support of Israel has probably contributed to stability (in the sense of U.S. interests) in the region. Israel is by far the dominant military power in the region and with U.S. support, has been a threat looming over and keeping in check other nations in the region who may have interests or goals that are contrary to U.S. and western interests.
the only thing israel has done in the region is cause problems. war with egypt, lebanon, syria-israeli problems, and ofcourse the continuous palestine/israel conflicts.

Israel is for the protection of America, to weaken the region. both are serving eachothers interest.

Israel wants their alleged "promised" land.
America wants to weaken and control the region. (Afghanistan, Iraq, the gulf, and coming soon, Iran).

I really am guessing this is gonna happen.

Regardless what the United States does, I would guess that Israel will not tolerate a nuclear Iran and will bomb their factories the second they get solid intel of when/where Iran is developing the nukes.

If Iran does develop nuclear weapons and missiles that could deliver them (assuming war doesn't break out immediately), you will probably have something akin to a Cold War between Israel and Iran. Something along the lines of when Pakistan and India both developed nukes, just much worse and more scary...

Not that I think Israel is blameless by any means.

But its not as if Egypt/Lebanon/Syria are entirely blameless either. During the Six-Day War, Israel may have attacked first. But I would have been pretty concerned if Egypt started massing thousands of tanks and almost a hundred thousand soldiers on my border as well.

As for the second part of the quote above. I agree.

Iran started testing long range missiles yesterday. its fucking on now guys.

The White House said on Wednesday that Iran's test of an upgraded missile undermines its insistence of peaceful intentions and will be looked upon seriously by the world.

"At a time when the international community has offered Iran opportunities to begin to build trust and confidence, Iran's missile tests only undermine Iran's claims of peaceful intentions," White House spokesman Mike Hammer said.

"Such actions will increase the seriousness and resolve of the international community to hold Iran accountable for its continued defiance of its international obligations on its nuclear program," he said.

" At a time when the international community has offered Iran opportunities to begin to build trust and confidence, Iran's missile tests only undermine Iran's claims of peaceful intentions "
    White House spokesman

Iran successfully test-fired a long-range, improved Sejil 2 missile on Wednesday, state television reported.

Al Alam, Iran's Arabic-language satellite television, said the Sejil missile had a longer range than the Shahab missile, which Iranian officials in the past said can reach targets up to 2,000 km (1,250 miles) away.

That would put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf within reach.

The missile test coincides with increased tension over Iran's nuclear program, which the West fears is aimed at making bombs. Iran denies the charge.

Neither Israel nor the United States have ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to resolve the dispute. Iran has vowed to retaliate for any attack.

Press TV, Iran's English-language television station, said about Wednesday's test: "The missile hit its target."

Al Alam said it was a two-stage, solid fuel missile.

" Such actions will increase the seriousness and resolve of the international community to hold Iran accountable for its continued defiance of its international obligations on its nuclear program "
    White House spokesman

The test came a day after the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation to impose sanctions on foreign companies that help to supply gasoline to Iran, a measure lawmakers hope would deter Tehran from pursuing its nuclear work.

Iran has repeatedly shrugged off the impact of such punitive measures that include three rounds of limited U.N. sanctions since 2006.

In September, Iran test-fired missiles which a commander said could reach any regional target. The White House branded those tests "provocative" and reiterated demands that Iran come clean on its nuclear program.

Washington suspects Iran is trying to develop nuclear bomb capability and has previously expressed concern about Tehran's missile program. Iran, a major oil producer, says its nuclear work is solely for generating peaceful electricity.

The United States and five other major countries said on Tuesday that a planned meeting with Iran about its nuclear program will not take place this year because of scheduling conflicts, although talks will continue by telephone.

In October, negotiators offered a deal under which Iran would send most of its low-enriched uranium abroad by the end of the year for further enrichment. However, Tehran has backed away from it, raising the prospect of additional sanctions.

Someone who knows more than I do about Iran explain to me the domestic political climate.

Specifically power politics between the President and the Ayatollah. How are they connected and what if their opinions regarding an issue are conflicting?

    Who gives a shit?

The only reason a Jewish State exists is because 800K Palestinians were driven out of their homeland in 1948 by the Zionist forces - through a campaign of terror. After the war 500+ villages were 'wiped off the map'.

The ethnic cleansing of Palestine began before Israel declared Statehood.

The 48' War was fought inside the Palestinian side of the Partition by and large.

There were all sorts of power-politics going on behind-the-scenes.

There was a lot of collusion between the Arab 'monarchies' and the Jewish nationalists. The Palestinians were screwed either way. It was mainly only have Deir Yassin, that the people were able to convince the leadership to do something.

Someone earlier said that Israel is the 'only democracy in the ME' - an often parroted line by hasbaraniks.

What is a democracy? Is that just a slogan? Is it supposed to be meaningful? Because Israel is colonizing Palestinian land. It regularly breaks int'l law and violates basic human rights.

Furthermore, Israel is NOT a State (political entity) for it's citizens. It's the 'Jewish State'. A Palestinian who has ties to the land inside the Green-Line but whose family was expelled in 48' may never return. But a Jew from Brooklyn can - why?

    How is that democratic?

When Zionists use words like 'democracy' or 'freedom' - they cease to lose their meaning.

It simply becomes an ideological and rhetorical tool to use against ones opponents.

    Kind of like terrorism.

It's all quite Orwellian really. You say 'democracy' enough, and you think people are going to believe it's true? Or maybe it's just another barrier one has to cross to get at the truth. I mean, I have to waste time here explaining why I think Israel is NOT a democracy instead of going straight to the point and dealing w/ the nonsense point 'alt' made about how Israel is surrounded by countries who want to 'destroy it'.

The whole of the Arab league support a return to the 67' borders w/ E. Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian State.

Israel is building settlements. Israel is continuing to colonize Palestine. This is not simply an occupation - it's colonization.

Yes, very democratic! I mean, just look into the NGO reports about the state of the only 'democracy' in the ME. What a fucking joke.

    ----

Um, and Israel could be seen as a watchdog I suppose. Suppressing Arab nationalism, in favor of governments that would provide favorable trade relations to the West.

    That's it.

I'm sure there is a social incentive too since both our origins are similar. Israel was founded through ethnic cleansing, nationalistic myths ('the Jews returning to their homeland after the exile'/'land without a people for a people without a land'/'God gave us this land') and so was the U.S. (Manifest Destiny, Native Americans where?).

Except that, one happened hundreds of years ago. One is happening now...still in-progress.

Besides, we saved their asses, if I recall, I think they owe us one.

    Nearly, 1400 years ago. GG

I think the striking note to make is that Zionists are colonizing another people and their land as we speak, in the 21st century.

I'm reading this book right now by Israeli historian, Shlomo Sand called 'The Invention of the Jewish people'.

Interesting stuff. He's not saying 'Jews' don't exist. He's really just deconstructing a lot of the myths of Jewish nationalism. BTW - he also rightly says that Zionism created two people - the 'Palestinian' people and the 'Israeli' people (nationalistic identities).

I only know superficial information. That Ahmedineyad's domestic policies have not been quite so effective, particularly his economic policy, and therefore has made some people unhappy with him, particularly the middle class. The protests themselves have been going on as far as the 90s as i recall, since some consider that ever since the revolution in 79, true emancipation has not been gained IE: more personal freedoms, which is what these kids want, and rightly so. The revolution promised a lot of things it has yet to deliver. As for the Ayatollah, the President should be subserviant to the Ayatollah and i've only heard contradictory information. Alls i know is that the Ayatollah's legitimacy has suffered as of late.

The only problem i had with alt's post was the cannard about Israel being the only democracy and everyone around it wanting to destroy it; how someone can have a clear understanding of the US's intentions but absorb propaganda so easily is beyond me.

The issue is, if one take alt's post into equation, are Americans willing to live comfortably in exchange for subjugating other nations and inevitably leading to the death of thousands in the region? Perhaps this explain's the average american's ignorance of the issue, because ignoring how they obtain such riches is the only way they can hold contradictory beliefs. Could Americans really still hold that they stand for liberty and democracy when they do the exact opposite in order to enjoy resources?

Like you said, ignorance is bliss. Hell it can be seen in everything that makes our Western/Northern nations what they are. It doesn't even have to be on such a grand scale, just look at shit like pairs of jeans being manufactured in China and the garments industry in general. People don't want to know about these things because if they did, their moral code would become a bad joke.

As far as Iran goes...I just hope that we (U.S., western nations) don't do something stupid like piss off the regular people of Iran more than we have. Things would be a lot easier on everyone if Iran does go nuclear if the large educated public in Iran is also against nuclear war. This isn't Iraq or any other nation, these people are well educated, young, and its not the quite the shit hole of Afghanistan or Iraq. I think Obama's administration will be intelligent with foreign affairs though. Just hope Iran or Israel doesn't do something unbelievably stupid like actually use a nuke.
