block facebook?

not exactly as it sounds, but my room mate gets on my pc. i put a pw on it but sometimes i leave it open downloading stuff. he mainly gets on facebook, so is there a way i can block him from accessing facebook on his account only, while letting me access it?

Is it okay for him to go at all on your PC. Or is it okay just under the bolded conditions.

Otherwise, lockout before you walk out. (You can set up Windows to auto-lock your PC if away 5min/etc.)

well use it at all i guess. but if he does get on while its unlocked, i'd like that extra blocking to his facebook. im considering deleting mine and blocking it all together.

i read when i googled i could do something in c/windows/bla/hblah/abl/aha/ 0.0.0.0 facebook.com

Just setup a user/guest account for him in Windows. Then under administration you should be able to setup to edit the host file on his account (iirc) to block any domain/websites/etc.

Setup auto-lock on your account just in case (as I mentioned above.), if he needs to get on he can log-on with his Windows account. To my knowledge any other way is going to be a bigger headache/nuisance than it really needs to be.

Maybe someone else could put some input on it if they have a better idea.

There's a much easier solution here...Either log out of FB when you walk away from your computer or set it so it doesn't save your pw or auto-login. Problem solved.

But his roommate knows his own login/password, so he'd simply just log onto his own facebook account.

He wants to specifically prevent his roommate from being on his (the roommate's) own facebook account, but doesn't care if he messes around on the OP's account (hence the "only"). Although he is free to do anything else on the computer.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that this kind of passive-aggressive blocking will just cause a confrontation. The roommate goes from being able to sit down on your computer and jump on facebook when you arent around, to suddenly having it come up blocked. It may be easier to just talk to him and make it clear that you don't want him on facebook on your computer, and deal with the situation on your own terms without him being on the offensive.

As an example I had given my sister and her husband a computer, but gave their accounts user access only. They constantly had to call me to get programs installed, and I had only done that to protect them from themselves getting viruses. In the end when they found out why I did it they were not happy to say the least, and wished I had just told them up front to be careful with limewire and the like.

You can edit the Windows Hosts file to make Facebook inaccessible, but that would block it for you too.

Remove keyboard/mouse when you're afk! Or remove the monitor cable if it's detachable from the monitor's end.
