Edit: I really do not recommend these unless your really bored. Search each BG(100+pages) thread for the individual zones cause this guy goes way overboard with the renaming

Ah, thanks for that. And yes, he does rename alot of stuff, some of the names are quite funny, however. (Ashu Talif Muffdiver, etc.) can be entertaining during salvage.

If you use Pebbles POLutils, it has an npc renamer function which you can rename from specific zones you choose, rather than looking for the dat file that correlates with each zone

Guide to this? I could never figure it out. Gave up after a few tries.

It's pretty simple
From the first window, click the FFXI NPC Renamer button,
Hit yes on the warning message
Browse to your zone, like Arrapago Remnants
Click the npc you want to rename, like the Qiqirin Treasure Hunter, hit F2 to rename it Speedy Gonzales
Then the key is to click the Show Changes button
and then click Write Pending Changes and then Close

This should save the dat file, haven't tested it, but you probably shouldn't be ingame in the zone you're changing. I have tried changing it while in a different zone, and the changes worked without having to restart ffxi. There's a lot of useful things you can do with this besides for the lulz, but it's borderline cheating like apradar. Actually probably worse since you could be editing files for an advantage (renaming PHs, cell-mobs in ZR salvage)

You can be in the zone while doing it, but you won't be able to see the changes until you re-zone.

notepad++, get the hex editor plugin

You can open up the manafont file side-by-side (extract with a zip utility) and just edit the files you want. Or just extract the single file you want and dont use the installer.

So, we did this yesterday, let all 5 pop, then kill them, let all sure 5 pop, kill them all again, etc...there was nothing significant to pop.

1f went fine, gave us hope...went 100 to 0 with 3 pops.

3f we did till about 40%, nothing.
4f we did till we timed out, about 60%, nothing.
Random is random.
