Best indication is the selection of options you have to pick from when applying for beta
Anyone care to speculate how long the Beta phase will last before release?
How long do most mmorpg's beta phases last?
They already said they want beta to last till it goes gold (basically public release) so whenever they decide to start it up until they decide to release the game. So we're looking at a few months.
Most MMOs beta depending on what phases lasts 3 weeks to 2 months, sometimes they only ever enter beta and never get released. So it's up to Square.
Will it be in like sessions where you could only log on if they let you for a limited amount of hours per day/week or w/e? or just log on whenever you can?
Never been in an closed MMO beta before.
Closed betas are pretty much exactly like open betas, minus the fact that only selected people can log on to a closed beta (and an NDA).
I wasn't in any of FFXI's betas, but character wipes and level caps are pretty common in betas...haven't seen any playtime limits though (other than servers going down ofc).
Yes, for the start they are like that. Later they will increase the timeframe. Actually, it means the beta phase is available for let's say one weekend and you can play as much as you want during that time. The phases will get bigger and more frequent as time goes on, probably.
closed betas tend to be more restrictive pushing people to test the areas that the devs want checked, also closed betas you normally need to do pretty in depth bug reports, its not all fun and games (character wipes and roll backs are very common, not to mention some bugs that make it in to closed beta)
apparently they started sending beta keys to NAs.
Well?
Somebody in his LS heard from a friend that his roommate got the beta key.
Most likely.
True. It is nice to get a preview, but if you want the launch to run as smoothly as it can... you need to really look for those bugs and not waste a beta slot. Also, you have to take in consideration that by the time launch comes around you're going to be so sick of starter areas and leveling your character back up that it becomes painful.
It's easier said than done, but if you REALLY want to take the game on a test drive, do it in open beta and limit your playtime. I'm telling you... beta just ruins your gaming experience more than you think.
Sadly most people use Beta as an 'lulz i get to play early!' which is why generally every game that comes fresh out of beta still has so many bugs and errors and why those of us who would take it seriously..never get in.
I wonder is most who even signed up for beta even know how to write a beta report lol. Either way, beta's are never fun unless you have fun doing anything and everything in every situation to try to break the game.
I can't say more, friend on MSN >_>Congratulations, you have been selected to beta test FINAL FANTASY XIV. Check below for your beta key. !!!
*shit it officially starts monday... I cant wait that long
