I would not be willing to post anything on the game really, till it was more open, If me and 10 other people had to test a zone for bugs, odds are I would not post stuff like that. I was saying people who told us "I got in" and have yet to post a Email is BS. We will know very fast, as people like myself would tell you, even if nothing else but from a alt.

how hard is it to post a Pic with black outs of your INFO. hell you could say "this is not mine someone sent it to me" and SE could do shit about it lol.

Anybody who has said that they would even contemplate posting anything from the closed beta is probably out of consideration for it, and probably from the open beta too.

I'll guess that the first group to be chosen are from a select group of experienced players who can take instructions, test things to the limit, and keep their dinner disposers tightly shut. SE probably had that list drawn up a long time ago.

You won't be playing. You'll be carrying out specific tests that you will be tasked with. SE will know who has what tasks. If they see you blabbing about tests A-1, D-9, and F-12, they can pretty quickly narrow it down to a small group of testers. One more test (known in certain circles as a barium meal), and you're history.

£10 says they won't have tasks as you have mentioned. It's an MMO closed beta, not an alpha. It'll probably be like "report anything blabla" and "try lots of stuff", but nothing as specific as that.

I hope he's not serious about the 22 apps, SE clearly states they're automatically declining people who apply more than once.

But how would SE know the difference between one person applying twice and two people applying from the same place? If what he says is true that he used 22 different computers/IPs/addresses etc he would have a better chance of not getting automatically rejected than say a husband and wife both applying from their home using the same connection and information.

doubt they'd have an already made list. I've played beta's for many games from Subspace (1994-1995) to Wow:Wotlk (2008) ... all of'em someone somewhere has leaked info/pics hidden name etc videos.

Course they can ban you "if" they find out its you, but thats usually a rare case, and just request a takedown notice on the material.

I wondered this too. Sonomaa said there'd be a BG hidden beta forum. But how would people get in to the forum if they're not allowed to say they got in the beta? Will SE PM them a list of IP's to compare?

It'd also mean all of the BG admins would get in to the beta, unless SE doesn't care about admins reading beta discussions.

They may give a second look to cases like that, but like me and my wife, know that we have two separate accounts playing from behind the same router. Applications appearing out of nowhere will be looked at with a jaundiced eye.

People are assuming that because SE makes games, it plays games. What it will be doing is protecting its intellectual property, and most large corporations protecting their intellectual property make a mother bear defending her cubs look like Mother Theresa.

I used to work for a very large corporation that was Snow White in the Snow White and seven hundred midgets scenario for an industry. One of the larger midgets tried screwing with their intellectual property. The court ruling basically gave the very large corporation the power to put all seven hundred midgets out of business if any of them tried it again. Lesson learned.

FFXIV was in production for YEARS and we didn't know about it outside of what SE let known as "Rapture".

Agreed that SE is more secretive then other companies... but most mmo's aren't known to the public until well into development (mainly because the company doesn't file the trademark until they are ready for the public to know about XX title. The trademark doesn't mean much for SE since it can just be seen as another FF game.) I mean just think of a few recent mmo's... KoToR was completely under covers until RIGHT before the company was willing to release some info on the game beyond saying "we are making a mmo." And the same is w/Blizzards new mmo they have been workin on for a while now. It's completely under wraps from the dev side... and the only reason ppl know Blizzard is workin on a new mmo is that they had to explain to WoW players why a few of the big shot dev's were leaving

No, because anybody with half a clue that had participated in multiple beta tests will know that MMO betas have become a glorified way to play before the game is released. Very rarely will a development team actually ask for a beta participant to conduct certain tasks that are more prone for unit/system testing. If anything, it's more like what happens if you let your average clueless user into a system with no documentation and let him/her go nuts, and just observe if they break anything.

On the subject of Beta testing, I was in one last year(+/- 1 year), a star wars title, the closed beta was so bad that I only logged on 4 to 6 times. My graphics card wasnt supported so the game was a series of black boxes running around. some people dealt with it, I just logged in and stayed logged in purely for the stress testing. Another drawback I had was the game hadn't been optimized and ate up 2 gigs / all of my resources... (HP ZD8000 for reference).

Another problem in that Beta was the login screen, there were 20 different customizations but you could only apply 1 of each. 1 race, face, faction, weapon... Every time servers came up you lagged horribly while figuring out what buttons to press to get you through to the game.

I told people I was in the beta, but never online and didnt post any screenshots of the login or in game (that would actually load). It was still fun, but It's easy to just be quiet about it, no need to violate the NDA.

I fully anticipate a much better experience from the SE beta. Their design team has made much more progress as we saw from the alpha at E3, there may be problems and people might have black boxes instead of visuals and even massive lag as they stress test only a single server with 10k people rather than 2+ with smaller loads. If I make it in I doubt it will warrant a post on BG, most likely I'll take a look around and enjoy what SE has completed so far.

Some people have said beta will kill your desire for the released games, I would have to say this is 50% accurate for me. it did in my previous case, so much that I can't even recall the title without looking it up. but not in others (see below). With SE, I think the beta will serve a different purpose... Wasnt your second lvl 75 easier than your first? Beta gives you the chance to learn while the game isnt keeping score, you find the nifty little tricks to make $$ quickly and you enjoy the game's release all the same.

I played the PW open beta, and when they wiped servers for the launch, I already had a map drawn up of the best farming routes for crafting items. I went straight to them and harvested enough to set up a shop. I then proceeded to buy low sell high with my already established methods and enjoyed raking in $ from all the people crafting from lvl 1 up. It made the release much more fun for me because there was an edge for people who had a plan on how to start.

I quoted himself and added nothing else to it. Look at his history, he made 36 posts from 2005-6, stayed silent till august 09. then made 374 posts in 3 months of FF14 threads alone.

Are you saying a 7 year old can't join online forums? Maybe... I know I was busy outside at 7... but anything is possible. And being to young to understand technology in depth would be why he makes some of his outlandish claims.

That really isnt an arguement, its possible to sign up and list your birthday as 01/01/1911 (insert any other random date you come up with). Without acountability your left at what people say about themselves, which once again I'll point the the quote. I think his comments match his claimed age group so I'm satisfied to ignore them.
