Oh my god I've been fooled again.
THE SHAME
I should have known better. No one uses IE.
IE6, at that.
That just feels dirty.
damn shame it wasn't real beta vids
/stating obvious
It's fake just from the title thats only days after the beta app site was thrown up which is far too soon for any company to process beta applications let alone start the test. Not only that but SE already pretty much said it will be around 20gb and didn't say which distribution method would be used. Also Nobuo finished the OST on FFXIV so there's zero reason for the FFXI chocobo song to be used when it's guaranteed, as per usual of nobuo, there's a different variation to the chocobo theme if its used at all.

Anyway hopefully now that its a new year we'll finally get more info sooner than once every half month every other month >.>
With the FFXI beta SE mailed CDs to everyone that was in the beta. They also gave beta software to a lot of company websites like, ATI, Nvidia, Alienware, IGN, Gamespot, Playstation GAP. I remember getting one from both IGN and Nvidia. The sites could give them out anyway they wanted like Nvidia was like first 2500 people to sign up get it while like IGN had a Final Fantasy 1-10 quiz and the people who got the most answers right got it. Aleinware on the other hand made you buy a overpriced PC from them to get the FFXI beta and some people actually did that.
Hopefully they don't take that route this time around. Broadband wasn't a common thing back then so they probably could let people download the game client from their website. Let's hope they use digital distribution.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Official Site Update
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
There's already a thread about that cocktease email everyone got.
Apparently people are getting trolled hard.

The link listed below the image was a link to a rickroll.
Guy who trolled is an idiot though.
"World of Eorzea" and abbreviating Final Fantasy XIV as FFXIV gave it away.
Image comes from eorzeapedia.
That email wasn't even the worst cocktease I had yesterday. A bubble envelope came in the mail for me that was from California, with no business or person listed on the return address, and a TIME SENSITIVE MATERIAL sticker on it. I guess thoughts of 'I'm not expecting anything from california' and 'what could possibly be time sensitive' are all it takes for me to start daydreaming about the beta.
It turned out to be a usb drive I bought from newegg, even though the online tracking said it was shipped from NJ.
What has this world come to, amg!? Between the poor MMO community and the MMO offline/forum community, MMO's are a dying breed.
PS Please send beta info, kthx.
So, its been about a month since they put up the site to register for the beta. Has SE released a start date, or guestimation of a start date, for it yet?
No.
If you have to ask the answer is no.
Surprised SE hasn't adopted some kind of "hot phrase" to call their own. When Blizzard gets asked constant questions about release dates of certain features/games, their response is always "soon."
SE could use their own.
