I've done most of the events in FFXI and have basically taken a break from it since AION has came out. I personally will drop AION fast once FFXIV comes out because lack of content, community and sensibility.

I hit 50 about 2.5 months after launch and basically farm Dark Poeta and nothing else. Fort raids are ok once in awhile but either people aren't interested or it doesn't happen often enough. Dredgion can be fun as well but quick entry rarely gets me a spot(I'm a Sorcerer). The legion I'm in also seem to love farming balaur guards for AP and don't do much of anything else.. not that world bosses are fun or worth it either so large-scale fights are moot.

I leveled a Cleric alt and I like playing that since it requires me to be more focused than my Sorc. I decided to craft an expert armor set along with a weapon for my cleric and man is crafting ridiculous, especially weapon smithing.. Basically.. I want a decent chance at it so I need 5 blues and realistically need 25 green weapons for that. To make those 25 green weapons I need roughly 125 white weapons and to make that I need 20,000 ingots? 20,000 intos then turns into 2 different kinds of ingredients which I also need thousands of <.> and basically = AFK craft for HOURS.

So far all the posts in this thread from you have been nothing but blind insults. He's right. If you have nothing to add go away.

I don't understand people who think that insulting other people makes them a genius.

This topic is really devolved into a silly mess. A simple yes/no turned into pages of fanboyism and nou's.

I don't think so, it went a bit offtopic (I don't think you could have continued the original topic for much longer though... this is much more interesting imo ) but it's been quite a good discussion at least for me so far.

Obviously(?) I was talking about the "tier 1" items, the sets you can buy with points, and not the one of the best rings in the game. I'm pretty sure you can get that "relic"-quality ring in less than a year, though.

The players aren't meant to do everything at once. What's the point of doing Assault if you do Salvage for better gear already? If you'll go straight for tier 2, tier 1 is meaningless.

You act like you can magically add anything, and are not limited by the currents game mechanics.
Imagination is the limit. Game mechanics can be as complicated as the devs want, they won't run out of ideas anytime soon.

But to reply to Hyan to my comment way earlier about how something kept me playing...

    1) I had nothing better to do.
    2) I was out there offering suggestions to SE hoping that maybe, just maybe something would happen. (Most sane companies respond to customer feedback)
    3) I'm not of the mindset that quitting would've gotten things fixed. Enough doing so en masse would just have SE shutting things down.
Yeah yeah, your suggestions are flawless, you've thought of everything and you know how the game mechanics work. It's amazing why SE did not listen to your unique feedback that they must not have thought of themselves, and the most unlikely situation: they might've even found a flaw you're not seeing and scrapped that idea.

Usually you need someone else to point out the flaws of the system you think "fixes everything". The hole most people fall to is to not look at their idea critically enough. That's why most ideas are useless.

EDIT: I did it again. epic fail.

Were you displaying actions that could be seen as RMT? From what you posted, yes. Also you said you had botted on HNM at one point, unless you were speaking that you took over your friends account and did not bot on that one. Even so, changing the information on your friends account to your own (I would assume you had to change the CC info at least) is a huge red flag when coupled with your actions for ANY game company. Blizzard even has it in the agreement that you sign that if they see you're playing the game from a different IP they can ban you to investigate. That means you playing from your friends house can be cause for termination.

Never claimed my ideas to be flawless, but when the combined presence of discontent suggests some kind of attention should be paid to the problem "solutions" are being theorycrafted on, then it might actually be worth looking into instead of just covering your ears and pretending nobody's talking. Oftentimes the only true resistance to a genuinely good idea comes from people who'd suffered through whatever content was up for discussion and would either feel cheated or believe others have to plod through the same cow shit.

"But people still do it anyway!" isn't an acceptable answer to mentioned problems being okay because without reasonable alternatives, the only true choice is to outright quit the game. That doesn't get anyone anywhere, and if you don't believe alternatives are okay, then I'd mention the existence of the Gimp thread or even the one that links to random Alla posts. The game's design facilitates that whole MMO peer pressure that leads people to either cheat, RMT, pray to their deity of choice, or quit in frustration. And as much as some of the self-proclaimed elites might complain about Easy Mode, they're not any company's target audience when you can have far more subscribers with people who don't see vertical walls left and right because their play conditions aren't optimal.

So, I'll take your thinly veiled knock at me and throw it back at you with a question about one of the game's current issues: Why do offensive Campaigns suck?

If your answer is because people AFK fort whacked, then I'll tell you you're stopping short of some pretty easy solutions to that "problem" with it.

What I love is when people voice concern over things in a game then demand fixes that they think up. It never works that way and it takes a lot of time to push through fixes in a game where slight tweaks can screw the mechanics of the game up. Just because they didnt fix a certain issue doesnt mean they didnt KNOW it was an issue, maybe there was actually no solution to implement.

Then it comes down to resources. What is important, what isn't? Solutions are there, but is it worth it in the big picture of things to look into said solutions? It's not simply about what needs fixing the most, how much needs to be done to fix it is also a factor SE has to look into.

When your resources are limited, there are two choices to choose from in regards to things you can't fix: either you "cover your ears and pretend nobody's talking", or come out and apologize for the inconvenience (and if you want to make players call you liars, tell the reason for it as well). Either way nothing of value will happen. Only updates matter in the end, that's when shit either gets fixed or doesn't. Oh wait, there's a third option too: try to make a solution with insufficient resources anyway, resulting in a halfassed answer to the problem that only makes players even more pissed.

My answer to the Q is precisely what you said. We can theorycraft solutions we may find better (hindsight for the win), but in the end we're not thinking of all the possible scenarios or the resources SE is working with. Resources are probably the main reason it's still sucking, who knows. No matter how discontent you or even the devs are at the situation, if all the money goes for new boob slider in XIV then that's how it is. Does that tell us about the incompetence of the devs, or that maybe some people aren't satisfied with the amount of money SE dumps into XI as opposed to XIV anymore? I'd think it's the latter, feel free to disagree though.

Then of course players are in disagreement with the devs about what issues are the most crucial to fix asap. What's cool about it is that every player has his own opinion about what's the most important issue to fix. If you do HNM's every day, HNM's must be fixed immediately. If you're a SMN, SMN's need fixing right now and not later. If you're a PUP, you can't understand how it can take SE so long to fix the BLM AI.

Lots of real problems that need fixing, so little time and money. And then you'd have to make up new content at the same time that doesn't bring new problems to the table.

Must be easy to manage while getting less and less resources per update. Most people aren't gonna get what they want, in the end.

Like Hyan said you have 2 routes to take when you can't fix a problem you either:

    A) Tell people you know the problem is there and you can't/won't fix it. Which will result in cancelled subscriptions because people KNOW it won't be fixed

    or

    B) Ignore everyone, don't make mention of it at all. Which will result in some people quitting but many staying around hoping the fix comes eventually.

B tends to garner more cash =\

While the Campaign problem is a more recent issue, it doesn't explain SE's inaction on some of the older stuff before we even knew about XIV and how dev time was split. Far as I'm concerned, money isn't an issue if you take their 500k userbase to heart. It's that they're lazy or don't want to fix things. Or worse, are malicious about distancing fixes to add meat to later updates.

Trust me, I'm not sitting here thinking all, "GIMMENAO!" but there's a limit to how long people can wait regardless of their focus of interest. Stringing the carrot may make them more money, but it doesn't make them any less of an asshole when it's long since molded over and fallen off the stick.

lol, yah... I told myself I was done after FFXI, but a few of my really good friends were going to Aion and we've finally found a really good group of ppl to play with. Zero drama, just game focused... I can see myself playing this for awhile and then moving on without a hitch. I am SURE beyond any doubt that I'm officially done with FF though

500k or not, they have their resources set and really, it's hard to ask for more money if there's no reason for it (increased playerbase, etc.). What they're more eager to do though is to cut on the funds because the playerbase is shrinking (I doubt the game has even 400k players at the moment). You may say that for the amount of subscribers they have the resources aren't enough, but really.. what is enough to keep the playerbase around is enough resources already. They could be throwing more money at the game for whatever reason, but without significant raise all the problems are still not going to be fixed and the players will find new things to worry about, with less and less significance (from "RMT claims our mobs and ruins our economy QQ" to "RMT sends me nasty /tells QQ"). They'd really get no more gain from tossing more money at the game than they'd by taking the money elsewhere, to other projects.

Yeah, "laziness" is always the answer. Because they have a shrinking playerbase means that they're lazy and not just out of money (and developers). Which answer would be more rational? Do you think SE would keep those guys around if they could fix the issue by getting less "lazy" devs instead? Do you think that the devs aren't concerned that if they don't do enough/do wrong, the playerbase will disappear (SWG anyone?) with their favorite cash cow at the same time, resulting in Mr. Wada kicking them out of house? Would suck in this time and age. Japanese have always been always known for their laziness, too.

Disagree with me if you want, but "laziness" is not the rational answer.

"GIMMENAO!" or "oh well, maybe in next update"- it's all the same. Thinking that SE will fix Your problem is you being delusional. If the problem is so big for you that you can't play with it around, choose not to. Instead of targeting your anger at the devs, and even making unrational excuses about why Your problem isn't getting dealt with.

Now you're just skirting into chicken and egg territory.

At this point in the game's life, I'd probably say a super rejuvenated developmental effort probably isn't worth it. People have come and gone, formed their opinions, told their friends, and basically have their feelings about the game good and bad. It doesn't at all surprise me when people mention XIV as a fresh start where SE's hopefully learned from their mistakes while others are all "NEVER AGAIN, BITCHES!"

Back to XI, though. Communication with SE has always sucked. Recent updates, while offering potential through Augments or Synergy, have still left a lot to be desired in terms of overall game additions and have a bit too close of a relationship with the random number generator. People are miffed they have to pay $10 to get the most out of the add-ons that aren't really much more than a WotG city chain update that is naturally paid for by the monthly fee. Scoff if you want, but SE promised new avatars years ago. Where are they? Automaton AI? Beseiged crashes? Lack of Imperial Wootz Ingot sources? Reasons to kill the ToAU kings other than lolMythics?

Pull your head out of SE's ass for a moment and realize that the reasonable people out there are asking for sensible things, oftentimes requiring very little over from the logic standpoint of code. Give me a good reason why it took over 5 years to put Nomad Moogles in Selbina and Mhaura. Aside from being, you know, lazy, there isn't one. Copy/Paste, set some XYZ coordinates, update zone NPC listing, bam, you have a fucking moogle. Simplification? Sure. Dramatic leap from actuality? Not likely.

Actually, this conversation has reminded me of an interview about how they choose to implement things. It was said that anything added to the game has to be improved by the entirety of the dev team. I wonder how many updates we've been dicked out of because of in-fighting surrounding one guy's idea getting shut down and him turning around and blowing off the guy(s) who proposed their own later on down the road. And yeah, being Japanese doesn't make you immune to being a douche or never being lazy.

Do you want me to repeat myself? Reasonable people asking for sensible things, that are not getting them because the devs lack resources to give them these changes. Do you think if SE had infinite funds and FFXIII-size dev team, they wouldn't fix Besieged crashes, Automaton AI, or even give another reason to kill ToAU Kings?

At the start of game's life SE hadn't learned anything about how to run an MMO. Later when they did, not many new players were joining the game anymore, thus making nomad moogles in selbina more like a "nice, but kinda useless" addition at best. However, notice how with the addition of trial and other ways to make new players join the game SE actually added the moogles after all- suddenly that feature became important again, since new players were actually joining the game. Laziness? I think it would have been a pretty useless addition if it hadn't been implemented early in the game's life, and if they didn't do it then, it'd have been waste of precious resources to implement it later. I think that's sensible, and you're once again not looking at every situation, but getting stuck in one, "SE sux" POV because for some reason you can't accept that there are other options out there.

If the developer didn't ask for everyone else's opinion in the team, things would be even more broken than they are now. In the end the devs are like us, they have ideas and need other people to point out the flaws in their ideas, which they think are perfect. If they were allowed to solo with their ideas, those flaws would go unnoticed until they were implemented, and at that point it's too late already. I think the devs have more issues with choosing what's most important to fix at time, and even with all the arguments they may have they won't be ever right. They can only try, and the more resources they have, the bigger chance they have to be as right as possible.

I will personally dump Aion as soon as FFXIV comes out (assuming its fun like I found FFXI to be).

Personally I really liked FFXI, even after I stopped playing 3 months ago when Aion came out. I had been playing FFXI for five years give or take and for most of that time I have pretty happy with the game overall. The play style, the content, story line ect. There was lots of things to do and the game lasted me a long time, but since there has been a lack of good updates lately, and good expansions I have been bored with it.

Both Aion and WoW have been very blah for me to play. I get bored with it very easily. I will log on, grind/do quests/farm/craft, get bored after an hour and log. I don't PvP at all might be part of my problem, I don't like to PvP at all.

I'm hoping FFXIV will have some elements of FFXI in it. For me, I really don't care for the type of games Aion or WoW are. I play Aion lately to pass the time but really I don't find the game that fun. It keeps me from getting overly bored when I can't think of anything to do but that's about it. I actually had a lot of fun playing FFXI, and I'm hoping FFXIV will do the same.
