I'll give SE credit for trying to rival WoW, but I really don't see them being a threat to WoW.

Not exactly a bad thing either I guess since I really don't want to see a bunch of dumbfuck 13 year olds running around on XIV like they seem to on WoW.

And AION. Hate the WoWtards in AION. I'd rather they stay in WoW.

Yea. Or the players that run around and seem that they cannot verbalize until their dumb ass runs into a camp they can't handle. Then something completely indecipherable spits out of the chat window in caps lock.

A few weeks ago in AION I had someone aggro all of Sulfur Fortress instance not one, but twice, and ended up wiping us the last time. Said person then called everyone a noob fir dying, blocked us, and then warped out.

I'm convinced he was a WoWtard, only those can be that stupid to pull an entire instance "so that it doesn't aggro".

I hate. hate. haaaate...paying for another character. Every other MMO lets you have more than one without a fee. I really hope they abandon the content ID system entirely, because I want to have like 4 different characters without having to pay more money per month. If they do, looks like I'm just sticking to one again. :[

I like how this thread, also, turned into an FFXI vs. WoW flamefest.

Good job, dickheads, just when the FFXIV forum had a thread with potential to not be a complete pile of diarrhea.

    This.

And i found it humorous in one of the early FFXIV when they said 'they were amazed people didn't make additional characters in ffxi' or something of the sorts. i think.

    I wonder why.

And every other MMO locks you into a single occupation on each character. FFXI and FFXIV allow you to pursue multiple roles on a single character. I feel the FF way is a better system as it lets you experience the game from several different perspectives (race excluded) without the need to repeat the basics over and over.

You have a strange definition of 'repeat the basics' if you think grinding exp for 75 levels and acquiring a whole new set of gear doesn't count. Sure you don't have to quest your fame, nation status or unlock Sky again but how do those count as 'the basics' and not the fundamental MMO 'push buttan kill monstar' trudge to the level cap?

By basics I mean any content that would be completed regardless of your chosen profession. Time not spent farming subjob items, completing missions, raising fame, etc is more time you can put towards actually leveling up the new job, something you would be doing regardless in addition to all those other things if you created a new character. FFXI's job system is more flexible and saves more time (grind not withstanding) than other MMOs, plain and simple.

Bleh almost enough to take away all the upcoming excitement for me. I only hope if its full blown micro-transactions then the item's you can purchase are only mediocre compared to some of the endgame weapons.

This is a good business decision, unfortunately. Have those of you complaining about the potential for a person to swipe a credit card for a KC in ffxiv thought about the fact that this is already happening every day in ffxi? At least by doing this SE can eliminate unregulated RMT and maintain control over the way the game balance is effected by items/gilz being sold.

Don't blame SE for this, blame gil sellers and buyers for showing that there is an unquenchable demand for purchasing gil/items with money.

I'd rather see a game designed where buying currency/items is impossible or pointless. Making ALL the good stuff rare/ex would be a good start.

I think some people are blowing this way out of proportion before any real facts are even presented. I don't know any major MMO that sells rare weapons or armor for RL money and I highly doubt FFXIV will go down that path.

I personally think it would involve something like special character customization to in game furnishings. And like many people have said.. along the lines of mog satchel.

oh wait you did that already. well guess there is no room for further discussion right?

as for me i just have experience for 2 days in D&D-online. as in this game you even have to buy quests and missions to get some god stuff to see. well okay it'S for free to play per month but i don't want anything going this way.

and don't give me this profit stuff. even a BLM knows that SE could prevent hard RMT behaviour by giving ppl the opportunity buing stuff from SE and prevent being banned and cutting off some things that RMt would sell for real money.
as long as this game isn't here yet i can only assume that they won't overdo it, BUT as for SE being hard of abusing the playonline agreement to RMT and player. (22nd January bannings)
and i think that's what gave SE the credibility compared to other Firms who run a mmo.

For some reason I lose sight of SE's credibility when I miss an airship and have to wait for 15 minutes IN A FUCKING VIDEO GAME for the next ship. I mean... couldn't Sid build some more fucking ships? Couldn't there be a god damn air traffic controller to prevent collisions between multiple ships travelling to the same destination? What the fuck is this god damn shit???

    /end derail

    Oh yeah... ffxiv. Can't wait.

Because selling abjurations, cloud evokers and sky gear is impossible?

MMO Cash shops are about a company's bottom line and not a deterrent to communists coming in and monopolizing what's left of the economy.

You wouldn't buy the items then, you'd buy the lotting rights.

Unless SE makes the reward like Mammet quest BC where you get a random reward after you talk to the NPC.
