personally I liked the LCD and LED as two different tech's...

you know since DLP's have been using LED backlighting for years... but for some reason TI didn't scream "come get an LED TV". Now it's looking like they should have. Every idiot (proven in this thread already) falls for it.

what you fail to realize is that people like the new LED tvs is because they are thin.

The last generation Pioneer Kuro was 6 cm thick.

"lolplasma" if having an extra inch of space in your living room is worth a much-inferior picture.

    Woosh

what you obviously fail to realize is my point...

Those so called LED tvs are just LCDs with a new light source. The same ligh source dlps swapped to at least two years ago... Then found out it was pointless.

Who gives a shit about 5cm's in depth versus superior picture quality??? Idiots... That's who

Why are you arguing with the troll? He is obviously just saying this stuff to get a reaction.

All of these arguments are dumb anyway CRT still has the best picture quality of any display type... people put up with LED, LCD, and plasma to save space and weight.

My dad's 36" Hitachi HD CRT is almost 7 years old and it still rivals the picture quality of the newest TV's out there in terms of blacks and color reproduction.

If large 1080p CRTs existed, there would be a market for them among cinephiles. They don't, so they're pretty much ruled out immediately.

There are 1080p CRTS though(I have several), they just don't accept a 1080p signal, just 1080i and then de-interlaces to 60fps.

I still prefer that signal to 1080p on my plasma, the real difference is the best CRT ever made is 300lbs and only 34 inches.

If you want to get technical the best quality image you can get is going to be laser TVs. CRTs have some degree of black level issues and even the 1080 ones have sharpness issues. A nicer plasma will outperform them for everything but color reproduction. I've never worked with a laser TV before, but from what I've read there isn't anything that compares on the market. The closest would be the Kuro Elite plasmas.

CRTs outperform on response time still, don't forget. Also the sharpness thing is debatable at this point in time, since 99% of the material out there takes the "soft" nature of crt into account during production stages, a lot of videophiles prefer that look since it's more "authentic".

Also I haven't kept up on laser TVs(I kind of threw them in with SED as vaporware)...if they don't have response issues like LCDs have, I'll have to consider an upgrade.
