Apparently the remake of FFVII has been green-lit by SE. No word beyond that in regards to any sort of progress or release date at this time.

Well they got the opening done already at least
Don't get your hopes up is all I can say. If it comes, cool. If not, oh well.
Why make new games when you can just remake old stuff to make even more money?
Not very interested at all, ff7 was incredibly mediocre.
in before ff7 fanboys
Never could get into it. Did not find it entertaining or the story compelling enough to sit through the generic gameplay
As with all of their FF remakes..hopefully the new stuff added will be worthwhile..the Materia system was nice.
And hopefully magic def/eva actually works this time.
I imagine this thread will devolve into ff7 haters vs fanboys. Hope it doesn't though.
FF7 was a solid game, I think it was really popular because of the transition to MUCH better graphics - I felt more attached to the characters than before. The game play was pretty sweet, plus it had a really good bad guy.
Does it deserve a remake? From SE's eyes maybe - the game was really popular and it would probably sell really well. Would I rather have a new offline FF? Absolutely, but we're at a pace of one offline FF every 5 or so years now (FFX 2001? FFXII 2006, and FFXIII 2010) so having an offline FF to look forward to in the near future is good.
All that being said, I don't believe this will happen.
Final Fantasy 7 was a big generation of gamers first Final Fantasy, thus it has the same tie them that FF1 and 6(3 when I first played on SNES) has to me. Yes it is a very solid game, very solid story and it's overall a very good game; but I can hardly stand to talk about it anymore from the fanboys it has spawned. I personally was hoping for a FF6 remake done on the PS3, but FF7 is the most obvious and smartest business decision to choose at this point so I can't say I fault them for choosing it or say that I'm shocked or disappointed.
FF7 story was meh. Sephiroth was basically behind everything (hmm cat on a tree, probably sephiroth did it), which was very predictable and overall...poor. A metrosexual character with big ass sword against another metrosexual one with bigger ass sword. Cool for anime lovers? Probably, but not for the rest....because there was nothing else really.
Materia...or "lack of jobs" was a bad system as well, Cloud and Cait Sith could cast the same spells and use the same abilities at any given time.
Overall, it was a good game however and I'd probably play a remake.
Nothing else greater than this has ever happened in the history of video games and perhaps the history of mankind itself. Years from now men will look back at today and remember the wonder, excitement, and era of eternal peace that was to begin today and realize that today, history was made. Everything is going to change and we have front row seats for the history of the future. Yesterday I was diagnosed with swine flu and this news cured my swine flu. Personally I plan on giving up sex entirely, as I'm sure many will, and allowing the remake of FF7 to supplant nearly all other pleasurable activities I might partake in. Today is a glorious day indeed.
Pretty much how I felt about 7 but it was one of the first RPGs that got me into the genre in the first place, turn-based anyway. I think the hype was similar to how Ocarina of Time was a step in graphics for Zelda games.
Storyline-wise, I played it twice and the story seemed a bit bland to me as compared to previous big hitters such as IV and VI and even some smaller ones like V but was pretty neat for a FF game, just not at the level the fanboyism was.
Sephiroth was a satanist with a god complex something similar to Kefka was but Kefka was capable of making you hate and love the crazy guy at the same time (not to mention he accomplished more)
But back on topic, I had expected remakes of V and VI before VII does such as how they were doing on the DS but I doubt they could do that now that I think about due to size. I would actually like to see VI remade on DS as they had done for III and IV before I see a remake of VII.
Yawn. Remake wont make it out till atleast 5 more years.
Sephiroth sucked as a villain. His whole reasoning for hating humanity was a plot-hole in itself considering his ties to Vincent. Once you get past his empty motives he's really nothing more then a cool character design, at the time, with an ability only rivaled by Dracula to come back again and again.
The story, characters, everything from FF7 is a bit meh - but if you haven't noticed, the production quality of the FF series have increased dramatically over time. I played FF7 a few months ago, and am playing FF6 now. Comparing the dialogue in those two games vs. 10 and 12 is just apples and oranges - 10,12 are much more mature and polished. Characters like Wakka and Rikku, Balthier and Basch dominate the characters in 6,7 just because the production values have gone up. Plots seemed much more tied together (even if 12 does suffer from it's director change as you get to Giruvegan).
That being said, 7 was a huge step forward for its time, and as such, a lot of people have very fond memories of it, leading to a potential remake. If it really happens, I would imagine lots of innovations to the workings of the game, as well as a tighter plot and polished dialogue, which should make for a more enjoyable experience.
And of course, we won't have to use the stupid directional pad and hold down the X button to run the ENTIRE FUCKING GAME.
I'll believe it when I see it but if does happen i'll laugh if they keep the
cross- dressing cloud, cause you know everyone wants to see that in it's HD glory.
Xenogears remake would have been so much more awesome.
Great I loved FF7 this will be awesome if completed![]()
On a series thats long dead? Um?
I'd love a Xenogears remake too, especially with the second disc's pacing fixed, but I'm not holding my breathe for it.
Anyway, SE is a business, of course they want to make money. I'd be ok with remakes of the game, would give me a reason to play them again.
But i don't really see anything concrete here, and I also haven't seen this on any big vg news sites yet. I'll believe it when its actually announced.
monolith was planning on doing that for the last of their 6 part saga series. But then they fucked it up by making Xenosaga II
I would like to play an FF7 remake. I loved the game when i first came out, as people said the transition from ff6 to ff7 was huge, and while maybe if it came out today wouldn't hold as well, for it's time it was amazing.
It also is one of the few FF games where I enjoyed the mini games aspect.
