FFVII Remake Green-Lit by SE?

pretty sure a remake has been greenlite a long time ago, but whether or not they ever follow through w/it is another story

I used to post a lot on the xenosaga forums back in the day. Monolith wanted it to be a 6 part series, but had little funding. They were going to "reinvent" xenogears for the 6th part.

XS I did extremely well, but they did a lot of bad moves with XS II and have very little money to do XS III which also did poorly so the last three parts were scrapped.

I never got my hopes up ever for a remake of this game but I'm not gonna act like I wouldn't pick it up if it were ever released.

Well I heard a slightly different story. Xenogears was gonna be the 5th part, not the 6th. The game ends with "Episode V" shown. And like I said, I always read it was a matter of not getting the rights to remake Xenogears is what made them change it to a trilogy, though I'm sure XS II didn't help very much with the original 6 part plan.

none of the ps1 games need remade. 5 or 6 does. preferably 6.

I don't think it's fair to call FF7 a bad game. Overrated? Absolutely. Mediocre? Not really, not for the time it came out anyway. You have to remember, it was

- First 3D FF game
- First FF game after Square ditched Nintendo
- First FF game in the USA to feature the death of a main character, and a dramatic death at that

I think all of the hype and mania surrounding FF7 has harmed its reputation, and that's a shame, because it's really a fucking great game. Materia was an incredibly flexible and fun skill system even if it was exploitable and made characters somewhat generic. The story was dramatic and was told in a way that wasn't really possible with the 2D FFs (even though I love them). There were plenty of interesting sidequests and the game was pretty lengthy even without them. It basically introduced FMV to a whole legion of gamers. And the plot was deeper than people give it credit for, especially if you delve into Sephiroth's backstory, connection with Lucretia and Hojo, and Jenova's original arrival and the way the Ancients tie into it all. The main character was a bit of a douche, but then, so was Squall, and so was Tidus.

I don't know, I just feel like so many people hate on FF7 because it's the cool thing to do, or confuse it being overrated (agree) with it just plain sucking (disagree). It's not my favorite FF, but the poor game gets ripped to shreds everytime someone posts about it in a videogame forum, and it really doesn't deserve that. It doesn't deserve the insane amount of hype either, I definitely agree. But it was a revolutionary game at its time, whose popularity made huge strides in getting a lot of more obscure and higher-quality RPGs to our shores.

That said, I don't own a PS3, but I'd get one for a remake. I'd love to see the world of FF7 brought to life in HD high-quality visuals. I just hope they fix the script if they do this, so many grammatical errors and weird inconsistencies (hello, Barret can say "shit" one moment but gets censored saying the same thing two sentences later?)

Another sequel would be nice. We already got a prequel and a movie, so I hope SE goes a bit further than just remaking the game, especially if it'll be on a console like PS3 rather than some handheld.

Would be nice to see a remake of this the game was good for its time and id buy it myself just to compare to the original. It did get overhyped but alot of people were introduced to the FF series by this title alone tho ill admit FF6 was also a very good game too.

I think a blatantly obvious missing piece to this FFVII remake puzzle and one of the main reasons it hasnt been done yet...

Nomura is busy as all hell. I dont think any FVII remake will be done without him, and hes got his hand in so many current and soon to be SE projects that I don't see them giving him enough time to focus solely on the FFVII remake.

Part of me wants to see it done so people will stop asking for it. The othert part of me wants the "yaysephiroth" fanboys to live with this rumor above their heads for the rest of their lives. I remain in the camp of thought where unless I see something on store shelves, this rumor just wont die and will never see the light of day.

7 has a stigma of a lot of young, white, american, cosplaying dorks being obsessed with it and it's anime-esque character design. It's difficult not to despise that, but it's just an unfortunate association.

The biggest reason is simply that the game is overrated by fanboys, and people develop negative opinions because of that, which is a shame. Just because you don't like a game as much as the fanboys do doesn't mean you have to hate on it.

That, and I think people get pissed because FF7 gets so much attention, which they see as drawing resources away from more important projects (and they're sort of right). But honestly, it's not FFVII's fault that FFVI isn't getting a remake. I doubt it matters whether or not Squenix remakes FFVII. If FFVII didn't get a remake, the resources would just go towards Kingdom Hearts 3.14159/2.71828 or something.
