Again, I wouldn't mind a remake but I'd like to see new, solid games instead. A phenomenal FF game like XII > whatever remake at any day.

I'm down for a remake, but I feel like you can't really take that as a "it will be happening soon" statement. All he says is that someone will do it, and whoever it is will be in for an assload of work. I also feel that if a green light were given for this game, more than just electronictheatre.co.uk would be covering the story.

FFVII was the first Final Fantasy title I played, and I didn't care for it.

It was probably because it was the first FF title I played, and it was immense. I rented the game, logged 12 hours on the disc just getting to Fort Condor, and stopped. I actually rented it twice, started over the second time, and got the same distance before stopping again.

I finally downloaded and beat FFVII about 6 months ago when I found it purchaseable on the PSP.

It ended up being fairly lackluster, all things considered. I wanted to be immersed in it, and I wanted to really enjoy it, but the combination of knowing pretty much all of the major plot points AND being spoiled by later titles with better graphics, a larger CGI library, and more refined mechanics really ended up taking away from the "oomph" of the game.

It sucked for me, because the whole thing ended up feeling mediocre. Not great, not "so bad that I hate it" but just meh. Oh, and the ending sucked. I got absolutely no closure.

I'd be interested in a remake if they actually do something with it. Embellish on the original, and do more than just sharpen up the graphics. I'm a story-whore, and I felt that I got a lot more out of Crisis Core than I did the original FFVII.

I'd like to see it - FF10 was my first FF (and I still like it so there!), and then a friend lent me the FF7 discs and I got hooked - but because it was comparatively recently I played it, the graphics did become a bit of a stumbling block for me initially (I can't stand the Lego mutants look) - it's on the list of things I'd quite like to replay sometime soon but I'd love to see how they could do it on a modern console. I'd like to see 8 remade as well (the opening cutscene of it just blew me away when I first saw it), and I'd love a re-done 6 because I keep trying to get into it because I know it's meant to be awesome, but the graphics put me off cos I can't see shit where I'm going half of the time.

I'd love them all brushed up to semi-date... heck if they brought them all as a collectors box edition to a handheld like PSP - I'd prob pay a stupid amount of cash to get the full set in a nice shiny format rather than the ones I've picked up scraping around second hand shops over the years.

If you're going to layer hate on a game... X-2. Seriously - that one deserves it. VII has the usual Sephiroth fanboys and people who refuse to acknowledge the series had a history before the Playstation - but the game in itself isn't a bad game, although Square have ridden the spinoff bandwagon for all its worth.

No, they don't die, although that reminds me (and I stand corrected on my previous point) - Tellah does die.

What they said. Which brings me to the one useful contribution I can make to any discussion of FFVII, linking to this review:

Article by Nicola Nomali | March 30, 2009 | A controversial part of the Final Fantasy Series

(The reviewer's favorite video games include Super Metroid, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and I agree...)

He argues that the protagonist of FFVII is the setting, the planet itself. The main enemy is not Sephiroth (who is of real though passing concern) but "a company -- Shin-Ra Electric Power".

If you aren't distracted by whether Sephiroth is the son of a space witch or Cloud might be his clone or whatever, it's plain to see that a business is still the greatest threat the world faces. While Meteor might destroy it in seven days, Shinra is destroying it, right this second, from a universal scale down to individual lives. Thoroughly.

Although the story seemed to cater to a different crowd, I think X-2 battle system was probably one of, if not the best turn-based system in the Final Fantasy series. I'm not ashamed to admit that I put in more hours getting a 100% game here than a lot of the other Final Fantasies. Even the sphere mini-game isn't that bad once you get the hang of it, but I know a lot of people hate math too so I'm sure a lot of people hated it.

I don't think any of the games deserve any hate although I can see why people prefer one game over the other.

Ugh. Let that game die already, not only did they make a ton of mediocre spin-offs and silly characters' cameo appearances in other games, now a remake too?

FFVII itself was decent (but doesn't even make it in my top 5 FFs), but every time I hear OWA it makes me almost vomit thanks to the fact that you can't help but be forced to hear it in at least half of SE games.

And I never understood the hate for X-2. Who cares about the light-hearted story (tip: you knew it was going to be far from dramatic the instant you bought it) when you have the combination of best ATB and best job systems ever seen in the series?

I loved X-2 and aint afraid to admit it, was well worth 100%ing to get the bonus endings and too see everything that was happening that you didn't see in X, oh and ya, the battle system was aces.

I would rather have a Legend of Dragoon sequel.

FFIX still doesn't need a remake, the only thing wrong with that game was the final boss..since it was pretty much:

"Sup, I'm the last boss of the game, there was no mention of me throughout the entire game, but because SE wanted to throw Grand Cross into this game somehow..HERE I AM BITCHES."

Aside that..especially just before FFXI came out, it was a well made FF game, FFVII was great for its time..it gave everyone who's played it memories of a 'realistic' plotline, how sucking the planet dry is a real problem.

It exposed many to their first crossdressing experience. (Faris doesn't count.)

It exposed many to their first gay experience. (Face it, it was intended that Cloud got down and dirty with those men in the Honey Bee Inn.)

But it was by no mean one of the best FFs, all of the spin offs were to further explain the story since FFVII was so incomplete it's not even funny. Before Crisis and Crisis Core explained a fair bit about before the events of FFVII, as well as some plot holes from VII, Dirge of Cerberus was to give Vincent a more bigger role. Advent Children was the spiritual sequel and Last Order was a more complete retelling of the events in Nibelheim to try to get around the plothole left by said event.

Either way, with all of their recent remakes they always add in new dungeon(s), Bosses and fixes things (or breaks different things) so a remake wouldn't just be a reskin.

SE didn't make that. But while we're speaking of this, I'd rather have SE focus on a third Chrono game

I know they didnt, thats pretty common knowledge, but I would still rather see a Legend of Dragoon sequel then a rehash of an old game

Wasn't sure. Because I know a lot of people (myself included) who thought for a while that SE made it.

A new Chrono game, rebooting the Xeno series, and LoD sequel would be awesome three wishes.
