I would be fucking shocked if Christopher Waltz didn't win, I can't imagine anything else on that short list compares.
I'm REALLY surprised (and slightly pissed) that Watchmen didn't receive a single nomination. Jackie Earl Haley should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and I thought at the very least they'd also get a crack at Adapted Screenplay and Visual Effects.
And Nine didn't get nominated for Best Picture with the number of nominations doubled? Bullshit.
oh man i am pulling for up in the air and for cloondog. wouldnt be upset if hurt locker and renner took those categories though
It wasn't well received by critics or the general public, also outside of TDK/LOTR no superhero/fantasy/scifi movie has ever come close to any real substantive awards since the academy hates those genres. Avatar is an exception since they have Camerons cock juice all over their faces. So no big surprise there, and I mean with Watchmen the whole point of an adapted screenplay is to adapt it to the screen not keep everything a shot for shot remake of the novel with blue penis replacing the squid at the end.
I'm more shocked about Moon not getting anything. Sam Rockwell easily gave the best performance of the year, Kevin Spacey was awesome as Gerty, and outside of Up it was easily the best original story.
But anyways gonna go lol at all the AVATOLD threads on /tv/
Jackie Earle Haley should have gotten a nomination if District 9 can be nominated for Best Picture.
*edit
Just noticed Randy Newman is so awesome he gets nominated for two original songs. He better perform this year.
Original Song
* "Almost There," Music & Lyrics by Randy Newman (The Princess and the Frog)
* "Down in New Orleans," Music & Lyrics by Randy Newman (The Princess and the Frog)
* "Loin de Paname," Music by Reinhardt Wagner; Lyrics by Frank Thomas (Paris 36)
* "Take It All," Music & Lyrics by Maury Yeston (Nine)
* "The Weary Kind," Music & Lyrics by Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett (Crazy Heart)
Couldnt find an actual video... =/
Alright bitches out with the predictions. Here's what I got.
Best Picture: The Hurt Locker
Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges
Best Actress: Meryl Streep(just because Hollywood has always had a hard on for her.)
Best Supporting Actor: Stanley Tucci(Lovely Bones sucked balls, but Tucci was lights out.)
Best Supporting Actress: Mo'nique
I didn't used to be a big Randy Newman fan until we got a bunch in at the library and I sat down and listened to them. Good Old Boys is a really good CD.
I think Bullock will win Best Actress, Blind Side was pretty fucking good for that kind of movie, and she did an amazing job with her character, probably her best role ever.
I can't possibly see Avatar or District 9 winning Best Picture. The fact they were even nominated seems nothing more then catering to box office numbers. The Hurt Locker all the way on this one but then again, the movie doesn't have any gay/disabled/retarded character or a strong liberal/conservative ideological message.![]()
I'm suprised at the nominations hmm
I thought someone said that animated pictures couldn't be nominated for picture of the year? Up was fantastic, although I don't think it'll win.
Also, OT:
Who decides whether an actor gets nominated for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor? I think Waltz did an amazing job for Inglorious Basterds, curious why he got nominated for Best Supporting instead of Best Actor? I don't know exactly, but if he didn't have more actual screen time than Brad Pitt, it would have been close. I would argue he had the most significant role in the movie.
