    Possible Virus/Maleware issue

I'm having a major issue with my laptop. I let my buddy borrow it last week for his finals since his was in the shop, and I got it back a few days ago. Today it started acting up, randomly freezing completely with it being idle on a website for a short period. Also a strange pop-up came up for some windows new software for malware destroyer or something and I clicked deny and it kept popping up.

So I went into safemood and tried to run Combofix, and it would double click and nothing so I'd click run as, and it told me missing a file. So I uninstalled it and redownloaded to a flash drive and tried again and the same thing, wouldn't load. Tried it with Malwarebytes and nothing. Went to Microsofts site, tried to download their new spyware tool, it would error out during install. Tried to run ad-aware, it would freeze up/go non-responsive. Everytime I tried to run one of those programs nothing either loads or it goes non-responsive and won't work. Anyone have any idea on what I can do short of taking it in somewhere?

Malwarebytes is all you need, usually. The free version is awesomesauce. Usually finds and destroys anything. Though many new viruses prevent the DL. You may have to get it from Cnet. Once you get it installed, run a quick scan to get the easy stuff, then go back and run a full scan.

Malwarebytes won't run. Everytime I try to install it, it errors out saying there was an unexpected error.

A lot of these viruses / Trojans kill well known spyware removal programs. You can get around this normally just by renaming them.

They also often kill the update features, which often means you'll need to download the update includes.

Can you tell I've had 3 people bring me their pc / laptops with this same problem recently? Goes by different names but is always basically the same.

Can you run a virus scan at all?

Also, how comfortable are you with msconfig? Many trojans/viruses can have their startup components stopped via msconfig. Look for anything that has a blank path and turn it off. This will hopefully allow you to get MB to install. Also, do you get any type of pop up when you try to execute files? Lately there are some new viruses running around that have been a PITA to remove. Granted, it's been good for business.

Well I changed combofixs file name to combobreak and it's now running a scan on my laptop so that's helping at least. I'm not too comfortable with msconfig I'm fairly enept at pcs and such. After combofix runs I'll try malwarebytes next to see if it will work again then try my windows updates. Thanks for the help though, it was much appreciated

Excellent. GL. Getting combofix to run is a step in the right direction.

Thanks again. Combofix fixed the issue cause now malwarebytes runs with no problem on clicking. Gonna run that and try to get windows updates now again. Bet the reason my friends lap top was in the shop for thesame reason mine now had issues.
