Regarding Malicious Third-Party Programs used in FINAL FANTASY XI (12/24/2009)

They specifically mentioned the servers used to run the program, safe to say it is not windower. Windower does not connect to any sort of server to function. While App and NASA were shut down months ago, Wizbot and his packet bot both use servers and are a paired program as well.. which leaves them the only other likely possibility.

Anyone who has wizbot got the balls to say if it still works for them?

My thoughts are that they are going to ban the hell out of people to get them to quit FFXI to go to FFXIV.

People who are crazy enough to part with real money to cheat in a video game are more than likely chomping at the bit waiting for FFXIV to come out. I really don't think SE has to worry about getting them over to FFXIV.

But also, if they banned people now for the sole purpose of getting them to FFXIV, they'd be losing a ton of money from subscription fees until the game is out.

Well if they do ban people who used app/NASA, bye FFXI. Its been a great 6/7 years. People who used that shit knew the risks going in.

EDIT: How would they go about tracking server transfers? Some how I don't see them being able to track people who changed servers along with their names, unless they track their CCs.

Firstly, they are obviously talking about NASA/App not windower. I have no concern for windower, it is still undetectable and probably always will be, SE doesn't really care that much about windower as half its staff uses it anyway and the windower team are such better coders than SE that they would run circles around SE keeping them looking for a way to detect it even if they wanted to ban people for it, which I highly doubt. Pretty sure SE itself realizes the game is nigh-unplayable without windower's basic features like drawdistance and being tab-able.

Secondly, if they were actually TRULY serious about banning people who use bots they would have come down on the people on the list that Taj posted a couple years ago of the hacked App buyers database. Instead they'd rather fuck around waiting to fix a glitch in their game for a year or two and then ban whoever used said glitch - they chose the grey area over the obvious black and white list, which shows they have their priorities SO WELL in order. So, the majority of people who botted will probably never get banned, unless SE suddenly decides to man up about banning botters, but by now not that many people really give a fuck anymore.

Thirdly, idgaf about the botters really, let's see some fucking bans for all these /tell RMT assholes, how 'bout it SE?

And do you seriously think that anyone whos going to get banned from FFXI would transfer to FFXIV? I'm allready upset that all my FFXI efforts are going to be basically pissed on when moving to FFXIV, which is why I'm probably going to beta test, and unless I'm REALLY impressed, wont move on further.

SE cant do that because they dont know if the list is purely fabricated or an actual list. The same reason you cant submit your own SS/Videos of others doing illegal things, because they dont know if its shop or not. Whereas the salvage bans werent shop, they had it in THEIR logs of what was going on.

If you've read any of the statements Square has made you'd know they're abandoning PlayOnline. FFXIV will be a stand-alone program. Thank god.

Furthermore, I doubt it's possible to keep people banned from FFXI out of FFXIV. Square can't keep people banned from FFXI out of FFXI. Much less another game. The best they could do is ban by Square-Enix account, which isn't mandatory and isn't a good way to keep people out seeing as you can have multiples.

Too many work arounds. IP bans can be worked around, Credit Card bans, well, get another CC.

Anyway, looking at the botting situation, I don't know why Square wastes their time. The FFXI community has too many smart people(amazing, I know) for there to never be botting. If you take down one, rest assured there's someone out there that will be developing another one.

I'm not a lawyer and I don't even pretend to play one on the internet. Apparently it's possible in theory but there are no documented cases of it actually occurring.
