I never understood why Humans are so popular in online fantasy games and seem to always outnumber other races. I always find it boring to play a Human it would be my last choice. I have a lot more fun playing the races that aren't human.
What race/species was 99% of all heros in past RPG/Adventures that ever picked up a sword and board?
Its ingrained in people's subconscious, including mine. My hume looked badass on the character select screen, Galka looked too oafy and had too many sluggish attack animations, Elvaan looked too fake with their overly aggressive swings and bow legs, mithra... well.. mithra, and taru looked like a gimmick with their tiny little pokes with a lance.
I'll be Hyur this time around because of Paul Walker, like I said before.
Its the same in every game that has multiple races. The "default" race is always going to be the most popular.
Its the most identifiable. Put Mario, Yoshi, Toad, and Bowser in a game. Mario is going to get the most picks. Most identifiable.
Don't pick:

Anything but those ugly things
Doubt they will. Most "cute" things in Japan are flat-chested. Its one of their big things.
TINY PROPORTIONATE
any way i realize they probably won't, but I can still hope, at least until we see what's up with character creation
Or more defined walk, run and stop animations. With humans, male motions in a run cycle tend to be more outward while females tend to use inward, constrained motions. It's a subtle difference, but you can tell which is which. I can't remember exactly, but I don't think there were actually any differences in normal movements between genders in XI aside from combat animations.
I still haven't decided.
I guess I'll start with what I have in FFXI: at least one of every race with a mule in every town. Then I'll see which one is most fun to play.
If FFXIV turns out to be really good, and I play it for a long time, I want a galka alt later on down the road
Its so hard to choose... you cant go back! Its one of the reasons why i wish we had alts for different classes, but then again i really hate telling people who all my alts are.
That's why in WoW and Aion (and probably other games) there were guild notes next to your name so that you could write who alts belonged to
Ahh clevah!
Well about those animations, SE said they are adding job specific emotes to ffxi. So hopefully that will be taken higher with XIV and we will have gender specific emotes. Girls will be getting the /makesammich emote, i think.
