The popularity of the Dunesfolk has forced my hand to choose Plainsfolk instead.
Unless Dunesfolk are more magic-oriented, in which case I'll have to join the bandwagon.
Elezen
Lalafell
Hyur

I'll want to see all the animations before I decide between female Hyur, Elezen, or Miq'ote. I like my gear to be obvious and look how it's supposed to look (so no Lalafell with their smaller/cramped/squished textures) and I'm a woman who insists on not playing male characters. ^^;
Here's hoping some people in the beta post videos to help us see casting/movement animations and decide.Wouldn't want to get stuck with the froofy female Elvaan run or the female Hume that has her arms sticking way out to the side when idling like I am today....
Kinda lame they are making us have a last name...!
It's required? Has this been confirmed?Kinda lame they are making us have a last name...!
I hope we'll be able to choose which name the NPC's address us if that's the case.
Most likely not. Usually games will have it where they call you by the first name, without the surname. For example, EverQuest, Dark Ages of Camelot...
Sun miqo'te... and... last name.. uhh... dam dunno ;/
Also if you check the early ffxiv screenshots gallery, you can see characters with 1 name... its the hyraun blacksmith with a lancer miqo'te.
His name was Destiny while miqo'te had Azgaba X, so i'm sure you can have single word names not 2 word requirement.
The 2 name is most likely just an addon of a name transfer from ffxi (or just want something there)
Best thing aboot hume in ffxi was being able to play any job without any real downsides. Since I wanna play alot of jobs again Idk aboot going hume or not. Depends how the racial stats factor in!
They weren't required either in EQ or DAoC. After reaching a certain level, you'd type /surname <namegoeshere>. Completely optional.
Male Hyur. Midlander or Highlander, I have yet to make a decisions.
They may make last names mandatory for the sake of some sense of realism. Forcing people to have a second name could allow many people to have the same first (or last) name while staying unique. There ARE a lot of guys named John, for example. Problem with that logic is there are a bunch of people named John Smith too...
Still, they can't widen options for everyone without forcing some conditions on the people who don't care. I'm sure some people would rather not bother with the birth date and guardian stuff, seeing it as useless fluff no matter how much it might add to the character's depth and/or stats. It's just something we'll all have to think about.
The one thing that I do NOT want to see is a million variations of Cloud Strife or Sephiroth...
Eh...How many people who named themselves that stayed around that long in 11? Stuff like that is just an easy target, it's never a real problem.
Last name is a wash for me. The only nice thing is that I'll be able to (if I can talk him into it, and we can agree on one) have the same last name as my hubby. If what I saw somewhere is real (and not an April Fools thing) and you can share them.
I wonder if in game weddings will change last names?
For the life of me, I can't understand why some of you are getting so bent out of shape over having two names instead of one. Spend 30 seconds googling whatever mythological creature keeps you up at night, add an extra vowel somewhere, and carry on. Not worth thinking twice about.
