Compact keyboard set, on a full size keyboard. Started on a laptop and didn't feel like learning the full keyboard setting when I switched to my desktop.

Keyboard, hands down. I can't imagine having to constantly switch between controller/keyboard every time you want to type. Plus with the shortened typing for spells via spellcast, its hard to see me not using it. I also can't count the number of times people have aggroed with the excuse "I dropped my controller."

edit: The only thing I don't like about keyboard is while you are running via say 'w' (and not autorun), pressing the ctrl key makes you stop. I am of the opinion that WASD (or w/e movement keys you use) should never be unbound.

After playing this long, I don't really notice myself "putting down my controller" to type something.

I'll admit to using spellcast //spellnames 3 easy letters of target's name for some stuff, but that's just spellcast vs macros, if I'm playing a job that I use macros(blm), or a job that I play through menus(pld), I'll use my controller. If I'm using a job that doesn't really use either, like whm, I'll use //commands. I still consider myself a controller user though.

Keyboard. Used for way too long to switch personally.

Keyboard. Too much multitasking for a controller to be viable.

Controller primarily. Made me good at typing while moving around. And now I'm at 60wpm lol.

Controller, learned to play on my ex's PS2, so I've got a similar USB controller for my PC now. My reaction time is just so much slower if I try to use a keyboard and running feels awkward. I got a second account for PL purposes and a new laptop recently and tried to deal without a controller for it but it wasn't happening. Let myself die a few times trying to PL without a controller so I broke down and bought another one. I use the keyboard sometimes to cast a quick spell on somebody that isn't in my party or alliance (Dynamis usually), but otherwise I don't know how I'd get by without a controller.

I use both, depends what i'm doing. I prefer controller for soloing or running around, and keyboard for most partying.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I play on my laptop in an awkward position. Very awkward position. Awkward to the point where using a controller would probably cause medical side-effects. So keyboard only.

If I need to move my camera quickly or pinpoint something, I just use the tablet pen.

    PS2 Controller only.
I'm so used to targeting a whole alliance with the directional pad, moving the camera with the right analog, macros on triggers,... i'm unable to do anything with a keyboard. Typing while doing shit might take a little time to get used to, but i don't really notice it anymore. I really hate the clumsiness of WASD movement and the delay before you macros bars pop up when you press ctrl/alt.
Also even with spellcast, i never cast spells by typing (people do that ?), so yeah.

edit : forgot about fishing. Hammering on keyboard is the best way to fish, never found a more effective way. Controller suck for this.

I started playing on PS2 originally and I loved my controller, but as I moved to PC and used more and more aspects of windower, I don't think I could multitask as well with the controller than I can with a full keyboard. Still trying to get the feel of a controller again, but it just doesn't seem fast enough.

Controller primarily + keyboard. I pretty much use the controller for everything i do game-play wise. With the way my desk is setup, i dont have to put my controller down in order to type. So i dont really have any issues when i have to transition between the two.

I guess its just how you used to play / how you started. If you were a console gamer used just to pad it, or pc gamer used just to keyboard it.
Imo, Controller is very near to keyboard so you can still tipe alot of shortcut on key while enjoying the double analog of the x360 pad, for example, which is really great imo, in any videogame. I can understand the key+mouse for the FPS, but in a game where you have a third persion view and you need to move the camera, numpad are way less pratical than double analog; might be hard at start, but in the long way i guess it's the best solution.

Keyboard is fucking weird. I need to get a new controller again. My "skill" has suffered since my last controller broke because of how slow/awkward keyboards seem to be for well... everything.
It's not like I'm talking when fighting in the first place anyway.

Keyboard 100%. Never owned a controller. I play up to 4 boxes and appreciate being able to maneuver a character entirely with one hand and without looking. If it's my right hand, I'll use the numpad; left, escf (instead of wasd) so as to mimic the numpad and keep me in the same position for touch typing.

But if I were stuck with a notebook keyboard and a single account, I'd probably pick up a controller. Nothing more annoying than (Fn-,) or the like for bringing up the menu. Or not being able to switch movement to numpad to press a macro.

Controller primary + keyboard. Moving and changing the camera angle does feels awkward and handicapped compared to a dual analog controller.. And as someone said, after you've played awhile you don't notice putting the controller down to type.
