You can opt out of overdraft fees. I just did myself on both my accounts. It'll decline now if you are that low. You can still get overdraft fees for things that bill out later like tips that are processed later in the week. However for most people you'll save a lot of money just opt-ing out. However it also means if you have a check that was written that there isn't enough in the account for your check will bounce instead of over drafting. That's not a big deal for most ppl tho. Just talk with your bank to opt out.

The BOA overdraft protection still charges you. It's less of a charge tho.

It's one thing when you get one overdraft fee, but if you happen to fuck up (or in joint accounts, forget to communicate that you're both spending money) and overdraft multiple times, that is pure bank account rape. With my old account before my ex-husband and I split up, he managed to nearly bankrupt me by making minor bullshit purchases with a book of checks that he swiped from my purse. Every single check that passed was an overdraft fee of $25, and I ended up owing a fortune to that bank. And a blemish on my credit record forever.

Then again, I didn't expect that asshole to completely screw me over. But it's so fucked up. Way to kick people when they're down.

Another shady thing I've seen is credit card companies that will charge you something like a late fee, and the late fee kicks you over their limit, so they'll charge you an over the limit fee. Which is complete bullshit considering it was their goddamn fee that put you there in the first place, and probably because they took for-fucking-ever to clear your payment.

I have a long history of hating bank fees. So forgive the soapbox in the image thread.
