    His suicide note makes it seem more like depression coupled with the stress of not having any money to pay for a host of things which were causing him immense stress. I am sure this photograph and criticism of it contributed to his depression, but I don't think he killed himself specifically because of it.

    Yeah his depression certainly was a part of it, but hes also famous for a lot of depressing apartheid photographs, a lifetime of seeing shitty things first hand + criticism probably pushed him over the edge.
