I think what happens is when the original egg split after being fertilzed and splits into 2 cells, one the of the new cells become significantly larger than the other and wraps around the smaller one. The larger cell continues to grow as normal and recieves nutrients, but the cell thats caught inside the other basicly devlops as a parasitic twin. I saw a really good picture than describes it, I'll see if I can dig it up.
