This is the video I used before I attempted.
Voluptous Vivian
Pretty much straight tank, DoT, nuke when you can and dont die. The solo itself is hard enough, its frustrating when you don't pull right and get spider aggro.
since implementation of union drops, there has been an increased amount of players campaigning then there was before.. Yet i haven't seen any nation capture a stronghold or even get close to capturing one. Funding for the nations seem high on my server esp windy..
question is.. has anyone tried to aggressively take a stronghold lately? or just waited for the random tally to put all the zones under control?
Does anyone know what the new-ish foods with "...favored by artisans everywhere" in their description do? This JP taru outside the cooking guild had something like: "(Kitron Macaron)(Synthesis)failure down 5% (JP stuff) 2%".
Wondering if anyone has done any testing or anything on them.
X's Knife
does it or does it not affect Sneak attack and Trick attack directly with offhanded?
lot of conflicting answers
thanks in advanced.
Possibly the worst video you could look to for advice on how to tank solo anything on RDM. That idiot doesn't even idle in Terra's Staff and barely uses his PDT-% set at all... It baffles me that he was able to solo both Vivian and Rapido - by rights he should be lying face-down in a puddle of his own blood and cerebral juices.
Best advice for Vivian is not to be afraid of giving her TP. The only remotely dangerous move is Bad Breath, obviously, and once you realise the Paralyze effect is weak as shit it becomes a lot less daunting.

Whilst by no means perfect, this is better (CD'ing it to death as well). There's also a couple of videos of Seraa from KI somewhere on Megaupload but I can't be bothered going to find them. His too are far from perfect, but both of these examples are better than the guy engaging her with a Water/Neptune's for God knows what reason.
Edit: also, Wizard Cookies.
On that topic, how the hell do all these people avoid agro there? ; ; I tried standing in and around that spot used in all the videos and always got agro eventually even if I killed spiders until there were only the minimum of 2 left in the room. I had slightly better luck trying to move VV around and dodge the 2 spiders but they'd eventually corner me. A few times I somehow got VV stuck near a wall and it'd draw me in even if I was moving away from it very slowly. After I got tired of losing exp and dragging a friend out to kill spiders for me I started just looking for a way to reduce agro to just 1 spider since NIN, even as poor in merits and eva/ninjutsu gear as mine, can actually kill 1 spider while tanking VV. I ended up using the SE tunnel. I killed spiders in the tunnel until only the minimum of 1 spider popped in the section of the tunnel right next to the room, then killed that one repeatedly until it popped EM for signet bonuses. I'd pull VV into the tunnel as far as it went, then meleed it from max distance. If the EM spider got close to me I'd move towards the room if the room spiders weren't close. If they were, I'd just agro the EM, debuff it and kill it. Out of the 15ish times I did this I was forced to agro the EM's respawn before VV died only 3 times, of which one was at only a few % VV HP and I just ignored it.
Was the spider clearing prep work a waste of time? Could galka collision size be the reason I couldn't find the right spot inside the room or do I just suck?
You have to squeeze right up into that little corner as far as humanly possible, and once you do you should never get aggro from the spiders. Spend as much time as you need getting as far up into that alcove as possible and worry about Vivian afterwards. The worst part is waiting for the mobs in the room to position themselves so that you can make a clean pull.
