My windower "shuts down" when it reaches the "checking for update" section before the character selection screen. Should I reinstall or what? Can't remember where I downloaded it from.

First, try logging in without windower, just straight up POL fullscreen non-sense.

If it doesn't work, utilize Check Files from the login screen on PlayOnline, first checking PlayOnline files, then Final Fantasy XI.

Try to log in again. If it works, then give it a try with windower again. If that fails, www.windower.net, download the newest version.

When should and shouldn't I use crafting support? If there are only four levels between my skill and a craft's cap, am I going to benefit greater from not using support?

I'm not really sure what you're asking. Unless you're breaksynth skilling, having craft support does nothing negative to you.

A lot of people think it slows down your skillup rate. Whether it actually does, I don't know for sure. I usually tried to use support to keep myself at around 3 levels below the cap. My general approach was that if I was 5 levels or more away, I'd use advanced, at 4 use standard, and then stop using support. Something along those lines, and you can modify it more if you have some +skill gear, but it really depends on the particular skillup synth.

If it was a synth that I could sell quickly at either break-even or a profit, or if the materials weren't cheap, I'd often use more support, to reduce breaks as much as possible. If it was almost the same loss whether I broke or not, I'd rarely use any support, to try and maximize the skill from breaks.

I have a question about some .Dat files. I've never changed any around before and want to turn Atonement into Catastrophe to play with a bit. I'm not sure which .Dat belongs to which Weaponskill due to model view not having Atonement in it's weaponskill list. Could anyone possibly tell me which .Dat is which please and in which ROM folder?

What's the easiest way to lowman Armed Gears? I need a couple of pair of Aurum Sabatons and could use a couple of Tomoes too. Jobs on accounts I have immediately available are:

nin, war, sam, brd, dnc

thf, rng, pld, brd, nin

war, drk, blm, blu

rdm, cor, blm, whm

I have one pair of gaiters to use on either account with blm, hermes for cor, and trotters on the thf account. Thanks.

Can you three/four-box? I'd recommend tanking it on RDM/NIN with a bard account set to auto-Ballad/March, and using the BLM account to nuke it or the SAM account to WS it(or both).

I think its still soloable.. But ugh.. Long Fight

boxer's if you have difficulty staying alive, cerb if you don't.. gigant is pretty useless for it and cuch is rarely necessary as campaign mobs have pretty low evasion

When skilling up, the game uses your "natural" skill to see if you are eligible to skillup. In other words, as long as your skill number in your stats window is less than the skill of the craft, you can skill up.

Odd how it works this way for skilling up but not for HQ tiers.

21.68 and 42 = 56%
25 and 32 = 66%

So 21.68/42 wins by a long way
