After reading the rampart thread which went on to discuss on dat mods in salvage i have a few questions.
I'm interested in editing Dynamis mob names to add their job after it. I have POL utils and have edited names of mobs successfully in one zone but took a while as you have to edit each individual mob in every pull and repeat for every zone.
1) I wondered if its possible to edit that name once for any zone that uses it, rather than having to do it in every mob in every zone. Either through POLUtils or some other fairly non-technical route. e.g. Vanguard Kusa (NIN) would show in bastok, glacier and COP zones for all of that mob type if I can edit the source of Vanguard Kusa?
2) I've seen referrence to hex editer through notepad++ (which i now have) but couldn't make any sense of what i was supposed to be looking at! If thats a useful way of doing above can anyone point me towards some info on how to do it?
3) If theres an update will these changes be lost?
4) With POLUtil changes i've done --- Can i extract these changes and share with my LS so they dont have to do it as well and can copy it over to their PC somehow?
Thanks in advance!
So... you're privy enough on FFXI to read and post on BG and to use fairly advanced 3rd party tools, but you don't know the jobs of Dynamis mobs yet? Does not compute.
The only ones that are "hard" to remember are the ones that don't matter anyway.
Yea they can hit capped attack speed consistently. If you use the x/1024th thing, it's a bit easier to see~
Eq:
256/1024 = Total Eq Haste Cap
JA:
102/1024 = Hasso (Precise Estimate)
100/1024 = Haste Samba (Precise Estimate)
-----
202/1024 = Total JA
Magic:
150/1024 = Haste Spell
96/1024 = Advancing March
118/1024 = Victory March(535 Combined Skill)
-----
364/1024 = Total Magic
Adding them gets you:
256 + 202 + 364 = 822/1024 (80.27%)
The estimates on Attack Speed cap, Hasso, and Haste Samba are fairly precise but could be off by 2-4/1024 since they can only be tested through frame counting.
For Victory March, I think outside campaign the max amount of combined skill is around ~560, so 535 is fairly easy to hit for a Gjallar BRD but a bit harder for non-relic.
Most setups involving 25% gear haste include Velo/Speed belt and Blitz ring. These are two unique items in that they have 61/1024 and 11/1024 haste respectively. This means 25% in gear haste is around 252/256. 4/1024 shy of the cap. (~.39%)
Haste Samba is probably 50/1024 base, with 10/1024 for each merit. This would make 5/5 merits, 100/1024 haste. My test showed this was fairly accurate.
Just for fun, Relic DRK, SAM/DRG, and Rune Chopper WAR can all hit equipment cap fairly easy. But could a top notch WAR and DRG do it too?
Capped WAR Eq Haste:
50 - Turban
40 - Dusk+1 Hands
61 - Velo/Speed
50 - Byakko
40 - Unicorn+1 Feet
11 - Blitz
---
252/1024 Haste
Capped DRG Eq Haste:
50 - Turban
40 - Dusk+1 Hands
61 - Velo/Speed
30 - Homam Legs
30 - Homam Feet
11 - Blitz Ring
20 - Wyrm Mail +1
---
242/1024 Haste
Assuming the setup listed above, and using 122/1024 V March (560 combined skill):
WAR: 252 + 202 + 368 = 822/1024 (80.27%)
DRG: 242 + 202 + 368 = 812/1024 (79.29%)
So in theory a non-rune chopper WAR could hit the attack speed cap. (And a DRG would be .71% haste away).
1) Each mob has a specific name, so unless you use a HEX editor or something and do a search/replace thing, you're stuck renaming every instance of the mob.
2) A HEX editor is going to show the hex/Binary of the zone's .dat file. You'd need to find every instance of the hex code for the string "Vanguard Kusa" and then replace it a string of your choice. I don't know how the .dat file is arranged, so I'm unable to help there, but I'm fairly certain thats how it would work. If I recall, some hex editors show an ASCII conversion in a separate window pane, so it should be a fairly easy process.
3) Every update new .dats are added and some old ones are replaced/overwritten. For example, if you edit your icon for Utsusemi, it will stay there until SE adds some new icons, and the updated .dat will overwrite your old one. Most .dats are untouched in updates. Unless SE plans on changing current dynamis zones, your renaming will probably stay intact.
4) All you need to do is copy the .dat file you modified and send it to your friend. Then they need to overwrite their old .dat with your new one. It's the same method used with Icon/Font/Map packs.
Is there any way for me to get a MMM fishing setup without having to do any other MMM (or solo as a Blm)?
buy premade mazes for 500 gil to the NPC duplidoc.
Has it been suggested that Mad Bomber in BR takes less damage from H2H or blunt weapons than slashing or piercing? Also does he not follow the normal weakness to fire damage that most bomb types do? Just a few things I noticed in a run today I was curious about.
I backed up my whole POL folder before I reinstalled windows. I'm trying to find my old macros, I thought there was a user folder somewhere in my ffxi folder but I can't find it. I found a usr folder in my POL folder but I don't seem to see the macros. Where should they be?
Didn't say I didnt know them (although i realised when editing that one zone that I don't remember hardly any of the NMs) but I generally have lots of new people in the LS every month so I thought it would be helpful when grabbing a mob in my voke macro. If its not too much trouble it can't do anything but help can it.
Also its not something i've done before so I wanted to do it just because I can!
Just what I wanted thanks very much.
For 4) I can't see anything in POLUtils that identifies the .dat file im changing to know which one I should copy. It's just the mob names. Am I missing something?
Thanks
Each of your Char will be in a folder with the char's ID on it, which isnt easy to find out which char is which ID. If you just want to use your old user files i'd suggest copying across the whole old user directory folder which will replace all your char files/macros settings etc.
I've done this before several times before without any problems.
What do I need to make a ffxi sig or banner? I don't have photoshop so would GIMP do? gonna mess with Paint too. I can't remember the program that is used to do character art. Was it model viewer? Any help appreciated!
This method might be inefficient, but it's what I use. When loading Pebbles, choose the FFXI Data Browser. In this case you're looking for NPC/Monster Lists, so choose that menu option, scroll to Dynamis, then Dynamis-Beau.
On the left window pane will be the particular DAT that is being viewed. Scroll up on the left window pane and you'll see the directory structure... in this case it's RoZ(ROM2), Folder 13, 104.DAT. Knowing this you can locate it easy enough in your Final Fantasy XI folder.
For quick reference:
Final Fantasy XI - ROM
RoZ - ROM2
CoP - ROM3
ToA - ROM4
WoTG - ROM5
ACP - ROM6
MKD - ROM7
ASA - ROM8
SE released the information in a book call the FFXI Master's Guide, which comes out every year in Japan. Ashira and I found the Marduk Legs bit on accident while testing other things and she just happened to be wearing them. We always take off all gear that has +/- enmity and she just left them on because the text showed no enmity changes. When we didn't get the numbers we wanted we knew something was wrong and found it. People at first thought it was hidden on purpose and went crazy thinking Ares Body had Assault Breastplate had hiddens too (they don't). They corrected it like 8 months later.

What's the best Duel wield combo for DNC/nin
Papillo Kirpan, Ermines Tail, Adder Jambiya +1, Azoth, Joyeuse are the weapons i would assume are going to be in the mix, and that "Store TP +5" one from the Quatrub NM might also be in the mix.
I have 6/8 Dagger Merits, 2 Sword merits (will probably cap dagger soon, as i don't play pld much, unless needed in a pinch.)
Joyeuse/Cinquedea if you're not using weaponskills is probably the fastest TP gain if your joyeuse accuracy doesn't lack.
