    This is not true. It is a small impact relative to the impact that being in bad standing with a credit card company will cause but there is definitely a negative impact on your credit score if you close accounts. I saw it first hand. My credit score went down as a direct result of canceling 2 credit cards that I had. They were even ones that I had not had an ultra long time and never really used.

    (Like I said though the effect was rather small.) I found out about this when I was getting a mortgage to buy my house.

    Gotten $300 in same-as-cash travel rewards already and I got the card in June. If the trick is you get lots of free stuff, then yeah it's a trick.
