Your list of Top 10 Games of 2009 and Why.

Last year we had a thread that was fun to do and read, tosee peoples thoughts about their game of the year. I was watching a video over at Giantbomb of peoples top 10 of the year and thought it would be fun here. I personally love a video game discussion. So I'll start with my top 10 games number one being my GOTY.

    10. Resident Evil 5- Many will say this was just an action game and not a survival horror and well it pretty much was, with the new control scheme, new online mode and addictive gameplay, I personally loved it and played through it at least 10 times or so.

9.inFamous- This game was fun from start to finish and was a very cool super hero game and there was plenty to do, once again a not so great story, but the platforming and combat was spot on and had some nice customization.

    8. Dragon Age Origins- For me one of the best RPG's released in the past couple of years, I spent at least 200 hrs plus on the game and it really was a great offering from bioware and I was extremely happy with it.

7.Borderlands- A BAZILLION GUNS, the story was pretty good, the game is crazy in multiplayer and the DLC has been pretty nice thus far.

    6. Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time- Fun story, great platforming, awesome weapons, more goodness that is Ratchet and Clank.

5.Demon Souls- This was my favorite RPG of the year, even without a strong story and a little grindy at times, I constantly found myself plugging away stuck in front of the TV for hours farming for weapon items and enjoying my time in the Kingdom of Boletaria.

4.Killzone 2- My favorite shooter of the year, enjoyed the story, multiplayer was excellent, one of the best games graphically as well.

    3. Batman Arkham Asylum- I might have been one of this games hardest critics prior to playing it, due to the fact of hearing it was incredibly easy. After playing, I came away wanting more, it is a very well told story with great gameplay and an overall excellent game. It is easily the best comic superhero game to date.

    2. Uncharted 2-What a fucking fantastic game, the story is one of the best of the year, the platforming and gunplay are perfect and a fun experience, graphically the best looking game of the year, hands down and shows the what the PS3 is capable of.

1.Assassin's Creed 2- If you know me this is no secret that this was my favorite game of the year but not by much, it was hard to number uncharted 2, Batman AA and AC2. With an enthralling story, deep economy and customization options, fantastic graphically, great platforming and an overall just fun sandbox world, this is my GOTY.

Please note, I didnt get to play any portable games this year at all.

    Honorable mentions:

MLB 09 The Show: Easily the best baseball game since last years but was my favorite sports game of the year.

UFC Undisputed 2009: A very solid offering by THQ and an overall excellent MMA game.

Edit: Some people are adding a little older games so I will too!

Bioshock: I just now got around to playing it, I bought it in 07 on 360 and my 360 Red Ringed for the third time so I said fuck it, got rid of the xbox, got a PS3, I fully intended to get it last year but it got lost to the wayside due to other games. So I finally got to play it and fucking loved it and I am lookin forward to the sequel.

I dont think I even played 10 new games this year so my list may be a little short.

    1. Dragon Age Origins
    2. Modern Warfare 2
    3. HAWX (I LOVE fighter jet games)
    4. Killzone 2
    5. Resident Evil 5
    6. Wolfenstein

I'm playing Killzone on the hardest default difficulty right now and I am swearing to myself that after I am done with this game I will never buy another FPS game ever again. I have assassin's creed II here and ready to go, but I want to finish Killzone 2 first.

You know, I just looked through a huge list of every damn video game released in 2009 and the only ones I cared about were:

    New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
    Scribblenauts
    Doodle Jump

Admittedly, I got a PS3 really late. But still!

    Of the games I've played....

    1. Demon's Souls
    2. Uncharted 2
    3. inFamous
    4. Blazblue
    5. Torchlight
    6. Critter Crunch
    7. Ratcher & Clank: Crack in Time
    8. Zen Pinball
    9. Fat Princess
    10. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

Why Demon's Souls as #1? Only game this year I spent over 100 hours on, so if it's kept my attention span that long, it must be good.

Oh wow, 2009. I think this year was the least amount of new titles I bothered to play through so I won't have ten on my list, but..

5.) Killzone 2! I didn't particularly like Killzone for PS2 much but Killzone 2 got me hooked. I refused to take out the game till Modern Warfare 2 was released. Sevvvvvvvv!

4.) Dragon Age Origins because of some of the outrageous dialogue that goes on depending on who's in your party. An example would be Alistair and Morrigan.

3.) Modern Warfare 2 is extremely memorable and I still spend time playing it online, I don't think I'll get tired of it till the next crème de la crème fps game.

2.) Resident Evil 5 definitely makes it. I loved everything about the game and had no qualms my entire way through. Being capable of playing the entire main game with my friend was the highlight of it for me. Both my friend and I played this multiple times and completed it on each difficulty, including the survival modes. Can't wait for the Chris and Jill scenario.

1.) Final Fantasy XIII(JP) I guess I shouldn't really list it, but whatever. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Won't say much because I don't want to spoil anything for the upcoming NA release, however I'm close to clocking in the same amount of hours I had clocked into FFXII because I absolutely adore the weapon and accessory upgrade system and the missions (FFXII-style hunts)

Man, Bioshock. I actually never finished that game. I always pick out a time where I'll sit down and promise myself I'll finish it then each and every time I get sidetracked by some shit and afterwards I'm not in the mood to play it anymore, lol.

Eh, not many on my list either. I guess.. L4D2, MW2, and Uncharted 2 top my list. L4D2 is surpring considering how I felt when it was announced. Oh and Borderlands just because it caught me by surprise, did not think a FPSRPG could be as good as it was.

If I were to list my top 10 games that I simply spent time playing in 2009, I'll just look retarded. Oh well... here's a slightly more legit list.

    1] Final Fantasy XII
(Watching my girlfriend play it (and fall in fucking love with it) for the first time got me all nostalgic and made me realize I never 100% it, so I went back through.)

    2] Super Mario Bros. Wii
(Because it's so fucking fun/frustrating with multiplayer, the game was way overdue for the Wii. Now, I am sure the Wii catalog will get dusty again until Super Mario Galaxy 2.)

    3] Final Fantasy IX
(I tried replaying VIII and I remembered why I didn't like it at all... then I moved on to IX and remembered why I absolutely loved it. Still playing it at this moment. I don't recall ever having ever beat Ozma.)

    4] Grand Theft Auto IV
(My lack of a PS3 put this one off but I couldn't put it down. Always been a fan of the franchise. I just get a lot of enjoyment out of driving around and fucking shit up. Voice acting in the series is always pretty superb.)

    5] Dead Space
(Late because of above, but it was a damn cool looking game, I admittedly jumped a few times. It did seem a little bit easy with the immediately upgraded & only Plasma Cutter the first time I played it through though.)

    6] Dead Space: Extraction
(I have a soft spot for Wii on-rails light gun shooters. The girlfriend and I can bullshit around with games like this all night, but this one had at least some depth to it and went into the backstory since I had just finished Dead Space.)

    7] Final Fantasy XI
(As usual, but my interest is slowly falling away as I stopped with the HNM linkshell thing and have solo'd my NIN slowly from 37 to 67 in my spare time. Final Fantasy XIV is just looking too good to really be psyched on this so much anymore. I probably won't retire it until release. I am not ever going to play more than one MMORPG at a time.)

    8] Animal Crossing: City Folk
(My girlfriend gets pissed if I don't keep our shit watered when she's out of town though I still love making my animals say perverted shit and making them wear clothes covered with boners and hairy balls. It will never get old.)

    9] Metroid Prime: Trilogy
(This release reminded me how awesome the series was. I had such low hopes for a FPS Metroid, but minds were blown. Played through again because one of them I was getting irritated on the final boss and never finished it.)

10] The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
(I felt some kind of obligation to play this on top of my loyalty to the franchise. I will say it was worth my time.)

Alright, here's what I've come up with.

    10. Batman: Arkham Asylum - Fantastically fun although it does get a bit repetitive. There was never really a sense of oh shit I'm dead in any fights which kind of made it seem a bit too easy. But then again, you are Batman. Despite the lackluster ending the game itself more than made up for it.

    9. UFC 2009 Undisputed - The last time I got excited about a fighting game was when I found my old copy of Pride FC laying around for the PS2. Fantastic game. The damage inflicted was lifelike and not over the top. There's nothing quite like nailing a guy in the ribs repeatedly then seeing the bruises in the next round.

    8. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - I hate platform games. I hate Tomb Raider style games. But Uncharted is awesome. Great story. Great game.

    7. Resident Evil 5 - I love zombie games. RE5 was a fantastic follow up to RE4.

    6. Borderlands - I figured it would be a good game. I didn't think it would keep me this entertained. Thoroughly enjoyable loot based game.

    5. Ghostbusters: The Video Game - I thought Ghostbusters was fantastic. Growing up watching the movies just reaffirmed my love of the series even more. Plus the fact that they had all the cast return for the voice work is fantastic(except Rick Moranis. Fuck you Rick Moranis!)

    4. Halo 3: ODST - I admit I thought that ODST would just be another cookie cutter almost sequel. I was shocked when I heard Nathan Fillion's voice as the Sarge. The story was well told and the action was pretty rough in some spots. I really enjoyed this one.

    3. NHL 10 - NHL 09 was a fantastic game. But it still had a few issues(WTF at the lack of drop passes in a hockey game?!!) But in NHL 10 they fixed all of those issues and added a few new wrinkles. As a diehard hockey fan this is pretty much my Mecca.

    2. Valkyria Chronicles - I don't know when it was released but I just got my PS3 so it's new to me. I absolutely love this game. Love it. The story is great. The game doesn't bog down much even though it's a turned based affair. Can't wait for the next one.

    1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Do I really need to write an explanation as to why?

The firefly cast reunion of sorts is one of the biggest reasons I bought it, lol.

    1. Demon's Souls - Absolutely amazing, I find myself addicted to this game, getting on to do nothing more than grind at times.

    2. Borderlands - Hilarious dialoge's, amazing gameplay, and a decent story. I played this game straight until I got all the trophy's.

    3. Assassin's Creed 2 - Loved it to death, storyline is up to par to the first one, gameplay is better by at least tenfold.

    4. Uncharted 2 - Amazing graphics, great storyline, was an amazing game.

    5. Dragon Age: Origins - All around great RPG, great characters, and great storyline.

    6. Batman: Arkham Asylum - Best Batman game made, ever. Amazing game.

    7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Any game with good gameplay that has Deadpool in it has to be good.

I didn't really play many other games I feel is worth putting on here besides TF2, and games that came out years ago.

    Borderlands
    Modern Warfare 2
    Killzone 2
GTA4: The ballad of gay tony
Forza 3 (just for the sheer fact of getting drunk with friends and racing veyrons around with two racing wheels is probably the best thing to do at a house party)

Can't really think of anything else I've played this year that's really stood out. I still haven't played Uncharted 2 or Assassins Creed 2, but I have a feeling they'd both be on my shortlist had I had more time/money to get around to playing them!

    10. Killzone 2 - All of that anticipation was worth it.

    9. Infamous - Open world, some limited, and a decent story but awesome platforming

    8. Modern Warfare 2 - You shoot people and die a lot.

    7. Blazblue - I'm not much of a fighter person anymore but this game did really well drawing me back in.

    6. Aion - GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND

    5. Dragonball: Raging Blast - Next best dbz game to BT3

    4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - No blood? So what it's just as awesome to play and it's the better version.

    3. God of War Collection - Two of the best ps2 games in HD. We need more ps2 games remade in HD

    2. Uncharted 2 - Nice ass sully

    1. Demon's Souls - Hard as fuck game that poor 360 only fags wish they could play rather than bash constantly.

Note I own all of these and haven't played batman AA or anything like that.

    10. Infamous-Really wanted this game for awhile and when I finally got it I was pretty impressed..however I tend to get bored of open city games pretty easily which is the only reason I wouldn't rate this higher for myself.

    9. Kingdom Hearts 358/2- While not as good as the others it was still an awesome KH experience on the DS.

    8. Dissidia- Cuz Terra.

    7. Dead Space Extraction- Short but worth it with a friend.

    6. Muramasa- If you have a wii and haven't played this yet go do it... Now!

    5. Dragon Age Origins- Great rpg..second only to demon's souls on ps3 for 2009. Still playing it.

    4. Knights in the Nightmare- My favorite DS game of all time..right above TWEWY for me. Between the story and gameplay this was a really solid and unique SRPG.

    3. Uncharted 2- I think everyone knows why this was awesome already.

    2. Blazblue- Still can't get enough of this game. Best fighting game I've played since well...forever.

    1. Demon's Souls- Probably the most unique experience I've had with a game in the past few generations. By far my favorite JRPG since Xenogears. Between the awesome multiplayer features and even more awesome bosses I was completely hooked when I got this game.

I have batman AA but I haven't started it yet since I'm still playing a ton of shit which is why its not in my top 10.
