you mean the head piece I'd mentioned 2 whole posts about my previous post? The guy hasn't even been in the game for a year yet, i don't know his playing schedule, endgame involvement, if he's working on other "more important" stuff for his sam/pld and a new headpiece for penta that he can get from simply hanging around doesn't merit going after , etc etc etc. His alky's aren't even a week old if you look back a few pages. He's still farming up gear that you guys find basic that could be far more important to actively go after than something he can obtain an equivalent of freelot.
TLDR: good sirs I contend that there are far better things for you to complain about his gear over if you are going to complain about it.

How much of a damage difference would you say there is between a THF and a 2hander? I'm just curious. I don't have an answer prepared myself but I don't think it's colossal... then again, "colossal" is also relative ;x

More than you'd think, not helped at all by the relative difficulty of maxing THF damage vs. maxing damage on another DD.

Plop a good THF in a party with the same buffs as a good SAM or WAR, and the THF is easily at a 15-20% disadvantage, especially in any situation where a Polearm is an ideal weapon choice (esp. for SAM).

Considering how mental people go over 1% Haste, you can kind of understand the mindset that gets THFs pushed to the BRDless parties. And why you probably can't remember the last time someone said "man, we don't have enough damage, wish we'd brought more THFs".

Don't get me wrong here, I'm all for a THF going balls to the walls and maximizing their damage output, and in no way deny its utility outside of pure damage situations, but equal footing (in terms of gear/skill/support) with 2h DDs does the job zero favors.

TP floor removal and 2h patches utterly wrecked the ability of 1h DDs to do competitive damage (with the situational exception of Ridill WARs when you have no choice but to sub NIN and the planets/buffs/merits are all in alignment). THF and NIN by far took the hardest hit from those adjustments.

SAM AF2 should only take 1 inventory space max

All I see is an attack buff. Pizza is fixing all your accuracy issues. Which means the only advantage of 2 handed is 1/4 of their str converted into attack (which is lol for SAM) and the accuracy bonus from dex doesn't translate into hit rate % but into what you trade this accuracy bonus (haste ? attack ? store TP ?). Now Put a dual bard rotation, double march, double minuet and a COR with chaos roll. The 20-30 attack boost from the 2H DD is now ridiculous.

That 15~20% number seems off to me somehow. I might not get to parse my thf in merits more than twice a year post 2h update but the only fights where my thf gets consistently that low are nyzul boss runs where everyone else has zerk/aggressor/sekka/2hour and I don't so they shouldn't even count...
I cant really say anything else due to a lack of data proving or disproving either option in any definitive manner aka more than 3 parses for an extended period of time vs a non piercing mob(or with all piercing DD to merit vs as a sam that has polearm generally wont accept a pt with a thf in it).

.... I have the whole set except for the hat, and each piece except for the body does have a specific use AS A MACRO PIECE... Besides why should I care if it takes up inventory space if I have plenty of room for everything else.

The legs were tested after like over a year of the seigan update and it was shown that they actually hurt third eye with seigan up. I cant fault ya for not knowing about a fairly obscure post which is never referenced often that took place before you even started reading bg though.

I've done a bird meripo with mdk on THF. He did the same as my monk and had swift and not HQ dusk yet, and used BD/ X's. So without piercing monk is still ahead.

Oh... I would have never guessed but to be honest I don't use third eye much but in merit parties where things move too fast to notice a difference.

And whilst those one-handers have to eat pizza, a decent 2 hander can eat meat and have capped acc in a lot of common situations.

Besides, the biggest bonus 2 handers get is /sam. You can argue whatever you like about differing calculations, pizza, blah blah blah, but hasso and meditate are just far too sexy, even when subbed.

I'm agreeing with Pchan here actually. I agree 2handed DD is better but I don't think the difference is as huge as people make it out to be.

18% haste => 145.96 delay vs 19% haste => 364.5 delay

At equal time, Blau has hit 364.5 times and Hagun has hit 145.96 times,

Blau: 12028.5 + 364.5fSTR[thf]
Hagun: 10947 + 145.96fSTR[sam]

Blau advantage: 1081.5 + (364.5fSTR[thf] - 145.96fSTR[sam])

Let fSTR = 3 for THF and 8 for SAM.

Blau advantage: 1081.5 - 74.18 = 1007.32
DoT advantage over Hagun (base stats): +8.3%~

TP gain:

At equal time, Blau has hit 364.5 times and Hagun has hit 145.96 times,

Blau: 364.5 x 5.1 = 1858.95 (I know the last decimal would disappear normally)
Hagun: 145.96 x 16.7 = 2437.532 (etc etc last decimals)

Hagun WS frequency advantage (base stats): +31.1%~

Berserk is constant with both so we'll ignore that, likewise Double Attack. Meditate is a slight WS frequency advantage over time for SAM. Hasso's haste is slightly better than 10% Triple Attack at good levels of Haste, but the difference is not huge. I won't factor Sneak Attack/Trick Attack; too many variables... in terms of weaponskills, Mandalic Stab is strong on anything that Gekko excels on (HNM etc) but requires either SA or TA to be effective. On anything lower, Shark Bite (also requiring SA or TA) or DE/Evis are strong.

SAM is going to win here. I don't think the difference is as huge as you would expect though. With regards to Polearm SAM, that needs a different comparison itself ;x I've got a headache now so I'll just leave it here and it is incomplete, but it shows that THF doesn't get absolutely destroyed at least.
