I agree with whoever said the mazda is way too cheap though... I bet it has a salvage title.

you should get a mustang - i can't believe how affordably priced they are unless you get a souped up GT. I was going to get a new mazda 6 before I moved to Dallas but they were actually more expensive than a Mustang with comparable features. Plus your in college and let's be real, a Mustang is way sexier than a 6. You could easily find a nice used one for 10-12k, maybe even less. Worth looking into, I honestly had no idea how inexpensive they were, or maybe it's just the region of the US I lived in (Minnesota).
The only qualm I have with you opinion is he said he was trying to avoid the cliche asian with an accord, well everyone and their mother owns a mustang. Ive owned two mustangs(brand new) and had tons of trouble with them as well, in my experience their not very reliable.

On top of that, Mustangs are slooooooooooooooow. If you're going for muscle, get a Camaro.

I see you're looking at slow cars though, so I'd go for the one that is the most comfortable to sit in. If you take roadtrips, make sure you get the stereo options you want, unless you already have something to put in.

Most adults that aren't on welfare or still in college get rid of cars at like 60k. Then they give it to their kids who ride it another 60k till they're out of college. Then they sell it to someone who is on welfare, or whose parents are on welfare and didn't leave them a car with 60k on it.

I dont believe in needlessly wasting money. Why buy another car when the one I have works perfectly when the only maint it needs is a yearly check and clean. That and it keeps my full insurance coverage to only $45.

It's foolish to keep buying cars, but hey, if someone wants to toss money away, have at it. Keeps my wallet full at least.

I have a 95 Accord I drive as a beater, haven't changed the oil in 3 years just to see how long it will last. I will never buy anything but a Honda.

Some people appreciate other factors in a car besides economy. It's cool your model T still runs great, you should give yourself a pat on the back. This guy obviously isn't on the same page you're on, he wants a flashier car, and since you don't believe in having a nice car, you probably aren't going to like the direction this conversation leads.

I actually find the rsx and accord to be better looking than the 6 <_< but if you're referring to the corolla as the "good looking, functional, and effective car", i actually find even the newer corollas to be pretty ugly. that's just my taste, though.

as for long term performance, i've only got 2 years left in college, and i plan to get a newer car shortly after i graduate, so i don't necessarily need something that will last 5 years or more. in terms of current performance, how would you guys rank 04 to 05 rsx, 07 accord lx coupe, and 07 mazda 6?

Nissan all the way, I got a 2002 altima with 50k miles on it and all the bells and whistles for 12k 2 years ago and I love it. Before I found the used altima for sale I went looking at honda's and holy crap you pay so much for the honda name it's not even funny.

To add to this, I own 4 vehicles, personally I enjoy driving a nice car, not to just have have something to drive, but I understand the other side of the bill and wanting to have something dependable thats just a car and nothing else.

So I'm assuming the RSX performs better than the Accord coupe? Where does the Mazda 6 fall?

And yeah, the 2007 Mazda 6 is a bit low in terms of price ($10,500), but when I went to the dealer their sticker price was about $1,500 to $3,000 higher on all cars, and the salesman told me something along the lines of the internet prices being minimum prices, not asking prices, and that they were non-negotiable. Something about the dealer preferring to hit a lot of singles rather than a few home runs? I don't know if he was bullshitting me, but their internet prices are lower than pretty much any other dealer in the area. Similar ones from other dealers are listed at around $12,000.

it depends on what part of the country you live honestly - they aren't very common at all in MN but are much more common here in TX.

Also, a new Camaro costs 15-25% more than a new Mustang on average.

Also Kilhart, I would probably rank them RSX > 6 > Accord. Just remember that parts for Acura cars generally will run you quite a bit more than Mazda or Honda cars in case you ever need to get it fixed just because they aren't as common.

Thanks for all the help guys. Went out for ~6 hours and made a lot of calls, and the decision was a lot easier than I expected, oddly.

The affordably-priced Accords all came from this dealer who, when asked for a Carfax, admitted that every single car on his lot had flood damage and terrible Carfax reports. Basically all the RSXes I called up had been in accidents and fixed up. I eventually went back to this other dealer and got an '07 Mazda 6 with V6 and 50,000 miles. Sticker price was $15,500 but they gave it to me for 10 grand.

Sweet, sounds good. The Mazda 6 is a really underrated car in my opinion which got stuck with a bad reputation because Mazda is essentially a one-make brand in North America with the 3. Enjoy it well!

Oh, and post pics when you can.

I really loved the color of the 6 i (it was like a white/silver/cream-ish.. the salesman didn't even know what color to call it but it was sexy), but I opted for the 6 s because it just handled and ran so much smoother. I would have preferred that color, but I like maroon just fine.

    This was the alternative:

$1,000 more and a year newer, but with a 4-cylinder, no MP3 CD player, and some other things that swayed my decision towards the 6s.

So I have the maroon one on hold... but the creme one is just so sexy looking <_< it's got a 4-cylinder so the acceleration isn't as smooth and it's a bit noisier, but it has better gas mileage. I'd basically be paying $1,000 more for a car that's a year newer, has 15,000 less miles, in a sexier color, and has better gas mileage, while losing engine performance and MP3 CD player. What should I do D:
