Is it just me or does Guiness taste different here in North America compared to Europe?
I remember when I was in London getting Guiness at every pub and it was AMAZING. I came back and bought an 8 pack of tall boys took one sip and it tasted awful.
Could also be the difference between draft and bottled/canned beer...I personally HATE Guinness...it reminds me of coffee. (which I also dislike)
Drinking confuses me. I hate beer, but ill partake in some liquor now and then, and rarely will I just sit back and drink a lot, like twice a year. I probably have like a gallons worth of alcohol all year normally (wine and champagne), then plus those two times a year where could add up to whatever.
So last night I had like 6 shots of jim beam, a few jello shots, 3 shots of whatever that chocolate syrup + shnaps thing is, a couple shots of something mixed with energy drink, a girly drink, a glass of some other whiskey, glass of scotch, and some champagne. Most of the others had around the same, but plus some beers and they were all tipsy and shit, and im fine lol.
Im a big guy, however far from huge, but since I rarely drink I thought I would have been toast too. Definitely felt loosened up, but not tipsy at all. They were all pissed at me for kicking ass when we were playing Wii, and some board games. So ive no idea if thats a lot of alcohol and im just some sort of freak, or if thats not a lot of alcohol and their all light weights, they were about my age, about 7 couples or so, two people even tossed up. I guess im just going to have to drink myself stupid one time until I start throwing up.
Yea, Guiness is very hard to find good. Having drank it in Dublin and here in the U.S. it goes...
Ireland on tap >>>>> U.S. on tap poured right >>>>>>>>>> U.S. on tap poured wrong >>>Bottle
Most places pour it wrong out here, even the ones that try to do it right lol. Bottles are just terrible.
If you like Stouts, Lefthand Milk Stout was a fantastic brew from Colorado, very coffee-like if you are into that sort of thing.
Did Calvados with pears and had a few bottles of Warsteiner, and of course champagne.
guiness in a bottle?! that's unthinkable here in ireland! at least in my part.
I don't like driving around on New Years. I couldn't go to a pub. ;; Besides, this Extra Stout is really quite different from the Guinness they have on tap where I go for alcoholic shenanigans. It has a much more acidic taste. It's the nitrogen they put in the bottle to make sure it doesn't go all fizzy.
Personally, if im aiming to get wrecked then spirits are the way forward. Not sure if its urban myth but i do always feel less hungover when drinking vodka compared to whiskeys, clear spirits > all others.
I do like liqueurs, but that's only if i want a drink to enjoy the taste.
