My mother was definitely a whore, but she had enough standards to avoid sailors sir.

What makes you change the way you dress? Is it "what's new and happing for the season?" or maybe you just find a "look" or "brand" and start to adapt to it?

Just something a friend and I had talked about, and it got me thinking.
And I'm gonna call BS on your calling BS.

I've been wearing pretty much the same stuff, jeans and t-shirts with sneakers, since I was five. All I ever really cared about was feelin good, so if I had my choice (which for situations like work/fancy gatherings, you don't), it's a simple t-shirt and jeans. Hoodies and sweaters if it's cold in the winter. Shorts and lighter t-shirts if it's hot in the summer. Most shirts are plain and simple, but I do have a slowly growing collection of geek and music shirts. That's how I've dressed for my entire life, to the point where I still have and use a lot of the stuff I had in high school.

Yea I have a suit for family events and button down shirts and junk for nicer gatherings, but again, that's all "no-choice" crap I throw on due to a specific expectancy for the event. I mean you don't go to dinner in that fancy restaurant in torn jeans and a video game t-shirt, you at least put on clean pants and a decent shirt. But even when I do have to get all cleaned up, it's never anything fancy or special.

I also only own three pairs of shoes. Work boots (paid for and used at work), dress shoes for super fancy crap where I need to wear a suit and my sneakers. The same cheap ass $20 no name brand I got a decade ago. Wear em every day and they're still in incredibly good condition. No holes or major rips or nothin.

Fashion, style, what's "in" and what's not, none of that crap matters to me. Only two things I think of when I get dressed in the morning is A) what am I doin today and B) is this stuff comfy. Those are the only two factors that affect how I dress.

So what you're saying is, you dress the way people expect you to, because you care what they think, and just happen to live in circumstances where that is very lax most of the time.

I.e. I'm calling BS, on you calling BS, on him calling BS.

A ton of t-shirts, a few pairs of jeans, a few pairs of khakis, several button downs, a couple of sweaters, a few hoodies, a leather jacket, a winter jacket, a few polos, some long sleeved shirts and some cargo shorts. Suits, dress shirts, slacks and ties are in the back of the closet, because I hate wearing them.

Replace stuff as it nears shitty or otherwise become not worth wearing.

When I was 17, I found a pair of sneakers at Walmart for $3.96... no idea how. I grabbed them since I was notorious for wrecking sneakers (I do a lot of naturey stuff). The damn things lasted me three years.

I usually wear w/e everyone else isn't wearing. Those old niche groups from high school don't exist anymore. Punks on the decade of the aughts have more accessories than the real punks who don't have money, wiggers wear their pants hanging off their asses further than the real hip-hop crew, Goth's have more tattoos with matching guy liner than traditional non-conformists, fake jocks sport Lakers, Steelers, Penguins, and Yankees gear but have never been to a home game and the list goes on.

As far as I go, I've been going in a pseudo casual/vintage mode. Fedora/driver's cap, collared shirt, leisure suit pants/bell bottoms loafers in different plaid like patterns. I stand out a lot more and the bitches seem to dig it and that's all that matters to me.

I've had the same generic style since forever. The brands and fit have just changed up. My pants aren't baggy anymore, and my shirts barely pass my belt.

Hoodie or jacket, band t-shirt, jeans. I look like every dick that probably does nothing all day but sit around and listen to music.

I had to do a hardcore overhaul in last couple of years, since rock music shit is becoming popular. To hell with studded belts and wallet chains.
