When it comes to future projects, writer Mark Millar is like that uncle who doesn't know how to say "no" when you ask him for things, like going to the circus or ponies or going to a circus run by ponies, and therefore the requisite grain of salt must be taken whenever he gives the rumor mill a spin.

Our fellow Comic-Con brethern at ForcesofGeek.com have a press release for Millar's new UK monthly magazine called CLiNT, which announces that the movie sequel to Kick-Ass's first adventure, titled Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, will go into production 2011 for release in 2012.

Since Kick-Ass's less-than-blockbuster returns at the box office, sequel talk has cooled and this is the first news resembling anything close to official about Hit-Girl's next chapter.

With no official casting announcements, save for stars Aaron Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (it's a lot easier to say McLovin') expressing a desire to return, we'll remain cautiously optimistic until we hear from studio Lionsgate as to whether or not Balls to the Wall is a go.

UPDATED: Christopher Mintz-Plasse tweeted the following this afternoon: "Don't believe what you are hearing about Kick-Ass 2 guys. It is not confirmed, but I will love to do it when the time is right!"

According to comic book writer Mark Millar, Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus will shoot this summer. Kick-Ass 2 is a movie I would love to see, but I wasn't sure if the sequel would get a big screen adaptation. I hoped it would, but in previous interviews it didn't sound like it would be happening anytime soon. Then all of a sudden, Millar says it will be shooting this summer! I hope that's true! Here's the exact quote from the Daily Record:

We shoot Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus this summer. Then Matthew and I have Secret Service, which is a neddy James Bond.

I guess we'll find out soon enough if this bit if info is right or not. During the same interview Millar discusses his comic book film adaptations, what they are about and what he would like to see from them.

Universal in Talks for 'Kick-Ass 2'

After directing and producing the first film for Lionsgate, Matthew Vaughn is discussing a production deal with the studio for a follow-up.

Universal is in talks with Matthew Vaughn to make and distribute Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to the 2010 cult hit movie based on the Mark Millar-John Romita Jr. comic-book miniseries.

Vaughn directed, produced and self-financed the action movie, which was distributed by Lionsgate and grossed $96 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million. He is only producing the sequel, but has handpicked Jeff Wadlow, who helmed 2008’s Never Back Down, to direct.

Vaughn wrote the script for the project, which adapts not only Kick-Ass 2, the recent comic miniseries, but also the spinoff Hit-Girl, which is due in stores next month. The Hit-Girl storyline will be the first act of the movie, according to sources.

The actors whose characters survived the bloody ending of the first movie are expected to return, including Aaron Johnson (who played Kick-Ass), Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl) and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist).

Dealmaking should begin soon as the film is eying a September start.

This isn’t the first time Universal has come in to make and distribute a sequel of a comic-book movie whose first installment was released by another company. In 2008, the studio released Hellboy II: The Golden Army and after the first movie, Hellboy, came from Revolution and Sony.
