How was it cliche lol? Because it was a "super hero" movie? There really isnt much out there to be cliche to. Should have smacked him for being an idiot.

Every movie has an 11 year old that gets shot by their father for training.
Every. Movie.
Don't think the people that call this too cliche, get it.
Probably the same people that didn't find Avatar cliche at all.
All movies are cliche today. Hard to invent something new when it's been done so many times.
Spoiler: show
Only somewhat joking. It is a cliche story, as was avatars, but the way they showed the story in kickass wasnt, and was quite amazing.
even if it is cliche, doesn't mean it cant be enjoyable
If it's not cliche, it's probably because it's dealing with a taboo here (kids killing people). I can't really name a movie dealing with this, but it's relatively common in anime to have kid trained to be assassin.
Really, all that matter is how well the story is executed. Cliche or not cliche isn't the issue.
It's not cliche because there isn't a plethora of other movies with similar plots. Even if Hit Girl was 20 it would still not be a cliche story.
I'm not looking to get into some big debate about the movie, I just thought it was silly how one dude comes in with a comment about his friend thinking the movie was cliche and then a bunch of people just accept that being true when I think the point of Odesseiron's post was how ridiculous a criticism that was to make.
I haven't seen the movie yet (waiting for next month bandwidth to download it), I can't really argue or take any side. I was simply trying to say there is many way to define cliché, and your definition probably differ from Sephyuy's definition, and Odesseiron's friend's definition.
Is it the plot that is cliche? The cinematographic aspect? The action? The dialogue? You could have the best plot ever, but if the whole thing is made of one liner, someone might feel it's following hollywood's action movie cliché, and hate it. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you could have an awesome script with a simple story that is considered cliché by some. Or maybe going for shock value could be considered cliché? Not everyone watch movie for the same thing, and the word cliché (and not cliché) as a criticism lost its meaning because it's overused, and often incorrectly.
Except my post was a general statement, and not a discusion about the movie. That's why I asked you to go read it again.
You were arguing with Sephyuy over the definition of cliché, except you dont seem to realize it.
[edit]
Beside, I did read a good chunk of the comic when it was posted in this thread. If the movie is somewhat accurate, I have a good idea what it will be like, and I will love it.
He was talking about the plot using a broad definition of cliché, one that he explained in the same post. You replied with "no, i've never seen the exact same plot in another movie", which obviously implies another definition.
No point arguing with someone who doesnt understand a simple semantic issue. I'm done.
so this guy I know refuses to see this because
