yeah, little training and bad habits get the best of me

my ears are better at listening than my technique and notation skills are at technique'ing and notating heh.

Me, just the opposite. Between my AP courses in the Visual Arts program in high school and my time as a music performance major I have 7 years of college theory so I see technique and notation to the point of over my ears sometimes.

I wasn't sure what I was going to expect. I've seen some amazing pianists play older FF songs note for note, so I figured this was going to be the same. I must digress, because this was rather astounding. I LOVE the original song (I'll sometimes even leave the site open in my background), and your rendition was just as superb. Good job.

I took a few years of college theory at community college but stopped afterward to go into philosophy and now math. I play by ear mostly or memorize, but every now and then I get musical epiphanies that inform me of the theory at work.

whenever I change parts of pieces is usually because if I kept them as in the original they might sound odd that same way on piano so I do my best to keep the original idea but articulate slightly differently so it's still familiar to the rest of the piece.

ah yeah I think I know what you mean. it's like the difference between creating your own musical formula and simply reiterating a musical derivative of a given or similar formula.

I felt that way too during my few theory courses when they would ask me to compose something with a set of rules. I understand the mechanic for teaching and all, but music has always come to me the best when there are no rules, when it may roam anywhere in any way. I always end up feeling frustrated or awkward with music designed under constraints. Though, film composers and the like amaze me for their abilities to compose epic music even under such constraints. /envy!

Do you think they would release XIV in the summer when XIII comes out in March? Looking at their history, the minimum time waited before another release was 1 year. BUT, they've said they intend 2010 for release. BUT, they've also said they intend beta to be longer than usual...
