Go watch Songs of the South and you'll realize that the Princess and the Frog is not racist at all. SotS had some very questionable moments.

I still don't see how it is trying to "buy" the black community or how it is racist for there to be black characters in this movie. It made sense in the movie it didn't feel forced or canned. Since Disney hasn't had many black characters they are never allowed to have black characters?

You'll probably stop noticing that the characters are black after the first few minutes or so of the film anyway, wondering what all the fuss was about.

is this shit not offensive even in the least to any black people? to me this movie seems like a blatant attempt to create a movie for black people starring black people to help change there image.

really as a black person on this board that movie doesn't offend you in the slightest? it's like they are trying to buy you. maybe if it was a good movie i wouldnt have brought it up.
How is it not as degrading? Black people get some kind of free anti-image pass? Fuck that noise. It's all ultimately the same shit. Again, your being racist for singling it out when its just another simple Disney cartoon movie like any other.

Somehow Obama is to blame for this movie having black people. I took my little 3 yr old girl to see this movie and she loved it. Why does it matter what fucking color the characters are?

Please tell me you are trolling because you are all over the map.

You started the thread saying that this movie "for some reason" bothered you; however, you were not bothered by other movies that dealt with other races. Furthermore, you have now stated that this movie is bugging you without even seeing it.

But then you make a statement saying that it only bugs you because you think it should offend black people seeing as Disney, in your opinion, is trying to make money off black people.

It's trying to justify yourself, aka back-peddling on your original statement. "I swear, I'm not racist, I'm only thinking of the black people!"

It actually amazes me more about how critical people have gotten against Disney. I'm not really attacking you because this is definitely become a huge trend, but Disney has never been one to make an "amazing storyline" Most of their animated films have been taken from Grimm/Anderson/etc.. They are all stories we knew as a kid. The thing that made Disney so great, is they are films the whole family can go and enjoy, laugh, hear fun songs, and see wonderful animation. And nowadays there are few films that parents want to take their kids through without "suffering".

yet our generation has seem to grown up and expected the films to "grow up with us". These movies aren't for adults, they are "family movies". I bet if you were 12 and you watched this movie you would be thinking something completely different.

Well the originally story is given credit as a Grimm Fairy Tale, with German origins (grimm gets credit by writing it down and making it well known, like most of their stories).

There have been novel adaptations so it's possible one has it as an african american, but the original story did not.

You haven't seen the movie yet you know what kind of horrible stereotypes are in it, as well as the movie itself being bad? You have to be shitting me lol.

Your just waiting for the inevitable Hispanic Disney cartoon with salsa dancing, rice and beans, and lots of trumpets.

EDIT: It shall be titled, Maria and El Guapo!

Explain to me what makes it a horrible movie? It is a Disney movie. What did you expect? Schindler's list type emotional output?

Come on here. Did the little mermaid move you to tears? Did Aladdin make you laugh so hard you peed your pants?

These are family movies mostly geared towards families with young kids. You are putting to high a goal for a film not looking in the same direction as you.

There are hundreds of people that work on Disney movies, and the brightest minds in the industry tat review the movies To say that Disney is intentionally being racist in any of their movies is the most absurd shit I've ever heard. Does shit slip through the cracks like the naked chick in the mouse movie? Sure, but they aren't going to put out a movie that is depicting racial overtones.

Eh, I don't think it's racist per se. Disney can choose to take a European folk tale (or a book based on it) and change the setting n' all if they choose.

Personally, I do think they specifically chose to use primarily black characters to diversify their portfolio. Their "Disney Princesses" now has a black princess to market, and so on.
Doesn't mean they can't also have made a good movie in the process, just sayin', I think that played a big factor when they were hearing pitches.
