There hasn't been a "true democracy" in modern history. Idealistic thought would place it as a superior form of governance, but human nature kicks that in the balls, repeatedly as it degenerates to mob rule or tyranny.

Republics are about as close as we're gonna get.

I'm sorry Plow, I've seen you make this mistake a few times now.
Yeah, I do it all the time and I always kind of realize it and am just like "wait.. is... aw fuck it."

Both were pragmatist when it came to these things.

btw its important to note that the majority of Obama staffers are recycled Clintonista's Including Obama chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel.
Clinton came in and tried to pass universal health care ASAP. If you haven't noticed, that's what liberals want most. It's far FAR FAR FAR FAAAAAAAAAAAR from the only thing.

It's simply the most blatant, obvious, immediate, hurp durp fucking durh thing that you're retarded as shit for not understanding. (and huge lol @ hillarycare, again, try becoming informed)

He made HUGE steps for abortion "rights," and proper birth control and disease prevention, and not just in the U.S.

He helped make affirmative action a useful and productive concept and make the concept actually function as a rule.

He helped bring the "gay war" to the forefront as something every bit as important as the "race war" that has only recently been "won" by the right (correct, not right political direction) side.

He made strides, and set up the opportunity for Gore to move forward with a focus on environmental issues and their effect on our (and Earth's) health as a primary concern. (then we "elected" oil and construction companies, woo!)

He supported and signed the Brady bill into law.

He was constantly attacked for being a "tax and spend liberal."

He focused on reducing military spending, and redirecting it towards technology and education advancement.

He turned Reagan's supply-side version of government assistance directive from a system that promoted the widening of the gap into a consumer-oriented one that would help everyone by helping those that needed it most.

His economic policy was brilliant, regardless of if you believe it was "too centrist." The shit worked. Yes, it was cautious and "responsible," it also actually found a working middle ground while still regulating the absurdities that caused the current crisis.

In short, it's the economy, stupid.

If you told me a near-communist system, albeit with actual choice, run by Obama would be the most effective form of government I really wouldn't argue about much.

However, hundreds of millions of people would.

As long as you blindly determine "with me or against me" by if they agree with you 100% on everything, and harbor disingenuous hatred towards anyone that would consider anything less than everything, you're not going to accomplish anything.

Really? whats the name of the legislation he passed or at least introduced.

abortion 'rights' was already being steadily introduced on the state level when he was in office. you can't credit him with protecting abortion providers because that was brought on by the murdering of doctors and bombing of clinics not by his 'progressive' pro-choice agenda.

He helped make affirmative action a useful and productive concept and make the concept actually function as a rule.
I'm not convinced that affirmative action is actually a good thing.

He helped bring the "gay war" to the forefront as something every bit as important as the "race war" that has only recently been "won" by the right (correct, not right political direction) side.
what a load of shit. ask gay rights activists what they think of Clintons presidency. He did more to hurt the cause then actually help it.

He made strides, and set up the opportunity for Gore to move forward with a focus on environmental issues and their effect on our (and Earth's) health as a primary concern. (then we "elected" oil and construction companies, woo!)
wait what? You're giving Clinton credit for Gore being an environmentalist? Newsflash: Gore was an activist before he because VP. and Gore's agenda didn't really take off until after he left office.

He supported and signed the Brady bill into law.
and...again The brady bill was gaining momentum it was originally introduced in '87 it was only a matter of time before it was passed. This was not a liberal thing he did lol. This was a moderate thing to do.

He was constantly attacked for being a "tax and spend liberal."
    LOL.

Obama is constantly attacked for being a Secret muslim and a terrorist. It must be true!

He focused on reducing military spending, and redirecting it towards technology and education advancement.
unfortunately for you this isn't a left-right thing seeing as both far right and far left both think this is a good idea.

What I find disappointing and this happens on both sides is the amount of credit/discredit a president gets on domestic issues like the economy when its congress which has more power to do anything then the executive branch.

Judge a president by national security issues not by domestic policy unless he personally champions it.

Freedom of Choice Act is the current name, his version was introduced in 93.

    See above.

You can sit around and make excuses all you want for how he didn't start this or that, he supported the policies in ways a republican would have been lynched by their own party for.

What's really sad about your lack of understanding is that a lot of people partially credit the outburst of anti-abortion violence during the 90's as fueled further by the election of Clinton the baby killing retard murderer.

I'm not convinced that affirmative action is actually a good thing.
    That's nice.

    It's still a liberal policy.

what a load of shit. ask gay rights activists what they think of Clintons presidency. He did more to hurt the cause then actually help it.
The smart ones will realize that he brought the issues to the forefront. The fucktards will cry because he did what 80% of the populace wanted him to do, even though he tried to lead things differently.

wait what? You're giving Clinton credit for Gore being an environmentalist? Newsflash: Gore was an activist before he because VP. and Gore's agenda didn't really take off until after he left office.
I'm giving Clinton credit for giving Gore not only the platform to extend his impact, and the chance to lead the country in that direction, he also set up the economic situation, and the foreign influence, to actually focus on those issues if he became president, well beyond what he was able to accomplish as VP, which was destroyed by Bush anyway. (but was still substantial, you do us a disservice by trying to marginalize his effects)

If you honestly think the Clinton administration sided with the republicans on the environment and just happened to have Gore around, you're stupider than I ever imagined.

Hrm, maybe I should be assuming you're trolling after all...

and...again The brady bill was gaining momentum it was originally introduced in '87 it was only a matter of time before it was passed. This was not a liberal thing he did lol. This was a moderate thing to do.
You're right, moderate as hell. So moderate any republican could EVER have signed that bill into law.

Definitely not the biggest gun control bill in the history of the U.S. or anything, the NRA and the repubs were totally supportive.

Bush definitely woulda signed that shit amirite.

    LOL.

Obama is constantly attacked for being a Secret muslim and a terrorist. It must be true!
Hitler is constantly attacked for being a Nazi! It is true! Everything everyone ever says about anyone must be true because I can come up with 1 example!

Never mind my (0) supporting evidence, an all caps LOL provides all the evidence necessary!

unfortunately for you this isn't a left-right thing seeing as both far right and far left both think this is a good idea.
Unfortunately for you, you're not informed enough to tell the difference between vouchers and a quality public school system.

What I find disappointing and this happens on both sides is the amount of credit/discredit a president gets on domestic issues like the economy when its congress which has more power to do anything then the executive branch.
Yeah, it's not like the president proposes the initial budget every year and has final approval over appropriation bills or anything.

You might not want to go the system excuses route when arguing as an uninformed idiot against a polisci nerd.

The hatred for Clinton around here is insane really, not just in the mind-boggling sense, but it's just... fucking crazy, the way people think about it.

It's seriously like a mirror image of how all the ridiculous retarded republicans around here(Kansas) are. You try to say "Clinton was really pretty reasonable" and they'll tell you he was Stalin, Lenin, Mao, and Hitler all rolled into one hyper-communist-freedom-family-and-life-hating package.

Must be hard to talk with clinton's cock sturdily lodged in your throat.

So I asked for the name of the legislation and you give me the name of a bill that hasn't even passed? Single payer was Introduced by john dingle doesn't mean we have a single payer system for everyone in this country.

My bad, I forgot the part where since he didn't succeed with that one bill, he's a republican.

Go right ahead, claiming DADT and where it came from wasn't one of the biggest events in the process of bringing the issue to the forefront is going to make you look pretty silly.

Again, you can attack his failures and shortcomings all you like, none of them come remotely near making him a republican.

clinton was a pragmatic centrist who was "liberal" only in relation to the republican presidents who preceded and followed him.

he was better at economics/fiscal policy than any modern GOP president, but he also had some failings in respect to social service cuts and foreign policy actions (even though his foreign relations were generally good). he didn't push very hard for a lot of liberal ideals, but he did push for some.

now just stop it, both of ya.

Clinton was as bad as any other President since Grover Cleveland. (Well not as bad as Wilson or FDR, but he isn't far behind LBJ)

    Let's give a run-down shall we.

    NAFTA
    Bosnia-Kosovo
    Somalia
Dot-Com Bubble (Hey, now! Awesome collab with Greenspan!)
    WACO
    Ruby-Ridge
    1994 Firearm Act
    Brady Act
Counter-Terrorism (Terrorism) Bill that increased Federal Law Enforcement powers
    Iraq Sanctions
    Massive Market Interventions
    etc.

Need I go on? Besides Clinton was an authoritarian of the first order and the only thing that slowed him down was HillaryCare getting demolished and the Republicans gaining both the House and the Senate in '94. Otherwise Clinton would have been Obama ram-rodding whatever his twisted "I know better than you, you don't need liberty," mindset was.

Some of you are so eager for the elites up in DC to plan out your lives.....we should be tarring and feathering all the bureauocrats not rewarding them with lavish salaries and plush jobs at our expense while they only suck the market dry and produce nothing.

People who think Clinton actually had a "good economy" is hilarious. The Dot-Com bubble was going to be bad (And this is directly his fault in collab with Greenspan), and Clinton got lucky he got out of office right when it happened, so yeah, if you look at it in your narrowed field of vision, you could have said the same thing of Bush if the Housing Bubble didn't happen until 2009. As we can see the bubbles now are getting shorter and shorter in between. Obama is doing the same thing. Reinflating the bubble, just as Bush did. You guys are in for a very very ugly surprise very soon.

He had control over every single one of those things. The President controls foreign policy, signs every piece of legislation into law (He can veto, you know), and works with the Fed (Some speculation how much he influences, I wager quite a lot.). Who appointed Greenspan, again?

I think it kind of speaks of the status of liberalism in the United States when the two recent "liberal" presidents, have had very neo liberal politics. Or maybe it's the status of liberalism world wide. I also wonder if this has something to do with the Democrats slowly moving towards the use of corporate funds, which used to be something the Republicans were solely known for.
