wow. <_< i just recently visited Houston for new years. Im riding with my friend we went to the Gun show that was in downtown Houston area. Well evidently this is where all the homeless people lived under this bridge. We ended up stopping at a red light. This homeless guy walks to to the truck and asks for change. My friend without skipping a beat says. "Yes, but im not giving it to you". At first i was like "wtf Tim" but then i fucking loled.
One day when shopping at walmart my sister noticed a homeless family. (i totally did not notice them till ont he way out). She for some reason bought them PB&J mix and some bread. Gave it to the family they thanked her. On the way out the door i turned to her and said. "Hey Nicole that was a bitch thing to do.. What the fuck are they going 2 use to put the PB&J on the bread with?" She busted into tears. Shit was soo funny
definitely do not give them change
any of those fuckers could easily VERY easily get a job at mcdonalds or tim hortons or some other butt fuck job
agree with wopa on this one, makes them even lazier then they are
if they are sick ship them to a country that has socialized medicine
I don't. The funniest ones are the women on bart with a kid and they litterally read the I need money to get to x shelter and get my kid a burger from a piece of paper. It's like wtf, put some effort into it and maybe someone may help you out. Fuck those who exploit kids for there crack money.
I usually buy/give them food, though sometimes I do just give them cash. I get lots of volunteer opportunities through my church (though I usually volunteer for helping children instead of the homeless x_x) and I also have the option of donating directly to them. Though more often than not I donate my extra cash to the Young But Anointed Children's Ministry since I'm a member of this ministry. I believe VOLUME's (the ministry that works with the homeless and such) work is just as important as ours, but our funds are crappy. We have to have a bake sale almost every other week, whereas volume rarely even has to ask for donations, let alone have bake sales and stuff.
If I have change, yeah. Most are addicts and the chances of them buying food are slim, so I kinda have an idea where the change is going. Irregardless, they can do w/e the fuck they want w/ it.
I remember the first time I ever saw a homeless person was on a 3rd grade field trip to Baltimore. Standing outside the aquarium I saw one and yelled "look a homeless guy" and I ran over and gave him a $5.00 bill cause I had always thought you were supposed to help others in need. My teacher came over and grabbed me by the arm and dragged me away and told me I shouldn't have done that cause that guy was just going to spend it on alochol and he's what we all would turn out to be like if we don't work hard at school. Homeless dude heard her and got up and walked away saying how he was going to buy a burger and he wished me good luck in school.
Since then I try to give a little of what I can to help them out if I see them around. Cept for those damn "vets" that forget which leg of theirs is injured from vietnam when they obviously look too young to have fought in it.
I hate the fact that lots of people beg for money to use for drugs/alcohol. There are lots of people out there who genuinely need the cash for their basic needs, but since we can't differentiate between the types of people it makes us less likely to actually give cash.
Giving cash is easier than buying them food. I probably would never buy a homeless person food if I could trust them with cash.
In Chicago, when I get asked, I always ask them what they are going to buy with it. Homeless around here usually are in the same spot day after day(unsure if that is true elsewhere), if I remember what they said and it's not alcohol or cigarettes, I'll spend a few bucks if I remember before I go into work the next day.
I used to give money, but realized that most of them are addicts to something and that is why they are homeless. So I stopped![]()
No. For 90% of these people, giving them money is just enabling them to keep living on the street and panhandling to get their fix.
I used to give food until a guy threw the food I gave him on the ground and freaked out because he wanted money (for crack, I assume).
I remember there was a thread about how most homeless people are White, and how you rarely see Minority Panhandlers.
Nope. My view on it is most of the homeless people are in that situation because they made bad choices in life. You made your bed, lay in it. For the ones who are really unfortunate, sorry for you because most of the other bums who spend all the money on boos or drugs, or just pretend to be homeless ruined it for you. I don't ever see these people trying to better their situation. If one of them asked me if I had work and he could earn the money, I would be more willing but just flat asking for money, go fuck yourself bum.
I think the only time I ever gave any homeless guy money was when I saw him holding a Harry Potter book.
I have a slight fear of bums since I was chased by one when I was younger. It's a hit or miss situation most of the time but I kinda don't anymore since the last time I gave my change I got a huge eyeroll as if I could give more but didn't. That kinda pissed me off and I just don't give shit anymore.
Normally I'll give change to a homeless person if I have any when I pass by. I hate having change on me so normally I give all the change away (could be 50c to €20 in change).
But this one time I had none on me and a guy asked if I had any from across the street. I said no sorry none on me. Then he started demanding I give him notes instead. The fact he was demanding meant there was no way in hell I was giving him anything.
He started shouting to try and embarass me and when that didn't work he started making threats. That really pissed me off so I crossed the street and he ran away.
