I gave a quarter to Mizango once. So I guess the answer is yes since all negros are homeless vagabonds.

a lot of homeless are there for a reason, so if a couple bucks or whatever can help, i normally can spare. especially for the younger folks. there was a kid that i saw while visiting family holding a sign that said something to the effect "i need money to buy drugs, no yuppy money" he was pretty young too, probably under 18. well, the area he was doing it in is a pretty la-di-da place and i couldn't imagine him getting much from the people around there so i tossed him a 10 spot.
i've met quite a few douchebags that were religious, so i have a hard time buying this line of thinking.because religion teaches that giving the poor can be for your good too (in judgment day you will be rewarded).
but when its a secularist society, that belief wont exist. and that will lead a person to conclude that its really not in the best interest to give homeless people/beggars money.
Please refer to my above post.i've met quite a few douchebags that were religious, so i have a hard time buying this line of thinking.
I rarely even give food/drink now after I've had a few bums curse me out because it wasn't cash. Also, Washington, DC, is littered with bums that take the Metro to their Benz in the parking lot at the end of the day. Yes, they've proven that multiple times on the local news, as well as a guy on welfare living in a posh Georgetown apartment building.
Most of the appreciative "bums" I've found aren't out there in your face trying to get money.
I've given a few bucks here and there, but only when they've really worked for it. One guy had this elaborate story including a notepad full of signatures and etc etc, he put so much work into not working that I had to throw him a five.
Generally though, I don't. People sit on the medians kinda near my house quite often and I've never given them anything. I'll be self-righteous and say that I had to put my own ass through college while supporting myself completely, so every penny I earn is mine.
Edit: except all the pennies the guvment, the health care system, social security, 401k, etc take.
Ok so the 5 cents I have left are mine, I'll be damned if I give them to some homeless guy.
No money only food. Money goes to charities I've researched and feel comfortable supporting. Not that I even have that much to spare, but something small is better than nothing at all.
I wonder if they people that do give money to panhandlers are democrats or republicans, liberal or conservative, religious or not religous?
It all depends, sometimes I do if I have money although I usually don't carry change. I try not to judge too much also, although there is one situation in which I will never give anybody any money and that's if they approach me while I'm sitting down/eating.
Not if they demand it or hassle me in any way. That's an automatic "fuck you." I hope all gutterpunks go fucking die already for that very reason.
Because you don't need to make generalizations to live day to day. If the reason for not giving small change to a homeless person is because a long time ago one of them threatened you, then that's absolutely absurd. I've already made my comment on this issue earlier, but I'll repeat it. I don't give change to every homeless person I see, either. It's not hard to spot the crazies and the genuinely polite. I will, more times than not, give money to those that are polite about it.
Another good example is when I couldn't find a certain subway station, this guy came up to me (since I was looking at a schedule) and showed me where it was. He was obviously homeless, and I tipped him for his time and generosity. I didn't tell him to go fuck off because of a generalized viewpoint of bums. PLUS, I got to the station on time!
inb4 lolanecdotes.
Also, Mio's response is exactly what I would do in that situation as well. If you are expecting care and generosity from a stranger, then you should show it yourself.
There are a lot of young homeless people in Seattle. Some by choice, some not. Gave a group of 'em $50 one time. Gave a girl & her dog a $20, she'd been out front of where I worked for 2 weeks or so, so I felt bad.
Then there's this awesome dude down in Pioneer Square that I'd always get coffee for in the morning, and then $5 or $10 every other day if he was out there. Always felt good about giving him money because when I'd get off work I'd see him heading home (or wherever) with bags full of food.
Then there are the crackhead homeless people, fuck 'em.
I never give them shit anymore. I gave a homeless guy a few bucks once, and he grabbed me by the shoulder and tried to pull me into an alley to supposedly meet some crackwhore for a free blowjob. Motherfucker followed me for 4 blocks, and didn't give it up until I was about to throw down. It was so fucked up I decided I'm never giving another homeless a thing ever again. I give to local charities now.
A lot of professional panhandlers make much more than minimum wage by standing on the side of the street begging. Maybe it's just me, but something about that seems wrong. I know that in my city you have to have a license to panhandle. I give to charities and not to panhandlers.
I talk to the odd begger now and then in Toronto, and the real pros make like 200 bucks a day. The smart ones ask for bus fare or change for a coffee. True story.
Patrick Bateman knew how to deal with the homeless.
