Sad. They had one of the best live shows I've seen. Almost certainly drug related, though no official word as of yet since they're waiting on the autopsy.
The bassist of hardcore metal band Slipknot, Paul Gray, was found dead yesterday in a hotel bedroom in Iowa. An autopsy is due to be carried out today to establish a preliminary cause of death.
Staff found Gray's body on Monday morning at the TownePlace Suites hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, close to his home in the city's Johnston suburb. Police said the 38-year-old musician had been staying at the hotel for "a couple days". His death is not being treated as suspicious.

NO NOT NU METAL
At least they have 20 other people to take his place.
Brb, just gonna go give a fuck.
did dio get his own death thread?
If a slipknot member doesn't die via hanging I am going to be very disappointed in the fates.
If you look at what they're listed as doing, some of them seem like they're paying people to get in with their roles. Like 2 of them just have "custom percussion"(not counting the actual drummer) and one guy is just dedicated to "samples and media". Like, I get how that'd be useful in CDs and stuff, but what the fuck could he possibly do live that the "turntables" guy couldn't?
lol. It's actually the complete opposite of what you're thinking. It doesn't matter in the studio because 1 person could do all the extra percussion. They had all the extra members for the live show. Not for the music, for the show. They're entertainers, not just musicians mind you.
Would care if they made good music after the first album.
Iowa had a few good songs, heretics anthem being one of them, but the second the producers told corey not to scream anymore, to save his voice, and become more radio friendly, it was game over.
Be that as it may with slipknots general negative approval by society, most of their members have/had a great deal of talent. Corey was a great throaty 'singer', Joey is a badass drummer second to few, as with Mick's guitar skills.
Just my two cents: they will most likely not go on with Slipknot, I remember reading something a long time ago (back in Vol. 3 days) that if one member quit, which I guess includes dying, they'd all quit. What they'll end up doing is beyond me though.
As for Craig (the "samples/media guy"): he takes care of most of the lighting and fire shows on stage...other than that he pretty much only headbangs, which (with that heavy mask) is quite a feat on itself already. *wink*
