I love (in the sarcastic sense) how no one commented on the passing of Mandelbrot one of the most influential and amazing mathematicians of our time but are torn up over the passing of a couple of actors that played parts in their favorite sitcoms. Very sad to see Mandelbrot pass away. Fractals and chaos theory are one of the coolest fields in math.

Bob Guccione, founder of Penthouse magazine, has died. This was the magazine you really wanted your father to subscribe to, rather than Playboy. Of course, with the internet, it's not quite as cool, but I still have very fond memories of certain early 1990's Penthouse issues. Bob, I salute you.

James MacArthur, best known to American television audiences as "Danno" in the classic TV series "Hawaii Five-O," died of natural causes today in Florida. He was 72 years old.

Looks like God book'd himself a Danno today.....
