It works when you're Mikael Stanne (who guested on Insomnium's "Weather the Storm", btw), but their vocalist clearly can't do good clean vocals.

Vocalist aint doing the cleans, its the guitarist Ville Friman on the new album. Jules Näveri from Profane Omen did the clean vocals on last album. New album is now out and here is one of the best songs from it:
