Ghetto-blasting this right now. Best song on an amazing album. If this doesn't make you want to put on a leather jacket and punch a jerk then get the fuck off my forum.
It made me want to put earplugs on and punch the pause button.

I'll go rustle up some tampons for you. OUT OUT OUT!
Love truck.
Also, listening to the entire Heliocentric album by The Ocean. Metal about the evolution of the heliocentric model of the universe and the resulting schism between science and religion as a result of a further understanding of our universe? You bet your fucking ass it's awesome.

They do some awesome work. Precambrian is also a beast CD.
Isis is post-metal and GYBE! is post-rock. If you like GYBE!, you should check out bands like God is an Astronaut, Holy Fuck, 65 Days of Static, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Maserati, Battles, Bowery Electric (more shoegaze, but worth a mention).
(I assume you know who some of them are if you've ever even heard of Godspeed You Black Emperor)
just discovered panda the other day but really liking them so far
Honestly I couldn't be fucked to pay attention to defining sub-sub-categories of music anymore. The most you can get out of it is an argument. Really, what the fuck is the difference between melodic black metal and goth metal (I've seen numerous bands listed as both). There is a dude in his mom's basement in Wyoming and a dude in Norway who could write a thesis paper on the differences, but being that guy is retarded. Not ranting at you, Cyn, just being angry :3
Isis and GYBE! have similar extended, extended themes as far as their song developments go, and I found a lot of the layering of sounds were similar, especially stuff on Panopticon. Oceanic was amazing, but still pretty vocal-heavy. I'll definitely check out what you've listed, because actually I hadn't heard of any of them. Thank you!
